... in response to Re: Sounds Gross!, posted by Ray on Aug 27, 2002

Hi Ray,

No fish heads or balut yet. Worse than fish eyes??? Yep...fish balls sounds pretty bad!!! =8oQ My wife brought back a suitcase full of Chippy's and Filipino food. She knows how much I like it and couldn't see me paying so much here. San Miguel is $11.99 for a 12pak at the Cuban grocery store. My wife finds it hard to believe that it costs more than the Colt45. LOL

I think I'd better leave Kevin's O-ring to the professionals. LOL I no longer have access to a SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus) and Haz-Mat suit. I'll limit my surgical practice to myself and my dogs.

A suitcase full of Chippy's! Now that's true love... :-)

Dave, do you know what that junk does to your arteries? Oh, who cares...

How about Tanduay Rum? Did she bring you bottle?

Wait a sec... I'm getting a idea for a new business venture. How about a "Two-way Bakikbayan Box"?

1. The customer loads it up with the usual crap plus a gift certificate good at any of our company-owned sari-sari stores in the Phils.

2. We pick it up and ship it to the recipient in the Phils.

3. The recipient dumps out the goodies and then re-packs the empty box with Chippy’s, dried mangoes, Tanduay Rum, Cream Silk conditioner, San Miguel beer, etc., that they purchase from our stores with the gift certificate.

4. Our agent in the Phils picks up the box and ships it back to the U.S. and we deliver it to the original sender.

5. Original sender opens box and pigs out.

6. We get filthy rich while we provide employment in our sari-sari stores for the in-laws back home.

What do you think? Anybody else in? :-)

Oh no, here we go again on the tabo topic! (LOL)

Are you having trouble finding a tabo here in the States NNP? I guess We're lucky here in San Diego because we have lots of tabos and walis available. Plastic tabos in choice of colors are $.99 in the local Filipino super market. But I still haven't found a purple one for Dave yet.

So, what do you use for a substitute for a tabo?

Hi Ray,
Wow! they have tabos in choice of colors? lucky you! I like purple too Smiley I wish we had that here in the State
where I live, We have a few Filipino Stores here but they don't carry *tabos & walis-tambo* Sad so I just use a big plastic measuring cup as a substitute, it does work but it don't hold that much water Wink I think this is a great business venture online what do you think?

An excellent idea for Tuppeware.  If Tuppeware was to manufacture and market them, they would last a life-time too.  An excellent addition to their product line, I think.
If any of you pinays attend Tupperware parties, you ought to float such an idea up the organizational hierarchy.

Hey Ray,

The Tanduay Rum cleans out the arteries from eating all of the Chippy and lechon. Shocked) I'm sure your idea would work like a charm. LOL I'm still looking for a flat chested girl to smuggle me in some fresh carabao mangoes. Shocked))) I didn't think about that when I married my wife. he he he  No complaints though!!!

Well Dave, that sounds like a good place to hide a couple of mangoes from customs, as long as they aren't too big. I guess it would be best to start out with green ones because they might ripen pretty fast in that environment. She wouldn't want to go through customs with a swarm of fruit flies buzzing around her bosom :-)

You know, I tried to convince my wife about the Tanduay neutralizing the Chippy fat in your arteries, but she ain't buying it. Oh well, I tried...

White King Champorado Mix - "Chocolate Rice Porridge. Gives you energy you need to play, sing, run and jump! It also makes your body strong and your mind sharp!"

Check the ingredients on that stuff and see if it contains any Viagra.

Hi Ray,

We've got all kinds of crazy stuff (some of which I bought LOL):

Sustagen Premium Powder (Mead-Johnson Philippines) -"Sustagen Powder is a great tasting, nourishing snack for the active adult who wants to get more out of life."
What the heck does that mean? The main ingredients are glucose polymers and sucrose...no Viagra. I'm still looking for the Filipino snack food or beverage that "pumps you up and lasts all night. Shocked))) The Filipino at the sari-sari told me balut. :oQ

We have Lucky Me! Instant Pancit Canton, "fortified with vitamins and minerals, plus BETA-CAROTENE." We also have it in the Kalamansi flavor, which is "Rich in vitamin C and BETA-CAROTENE." Perhaps my favorite flavor of Lucky Me! Instant Pancit Canton is the Hot Chili Flavor, which of course has all of the vitamins and "BETA-CAROTENE." I think only the Kanos and the occasional Mexican eat that one. =8oO

We've have a few bags of Quickchow Instant Bichon Guisado, "with REAL VEGETABLES added."

Let's not forget the Hello Kitty Nissan Cup Noodles in both chicken and shrimp flavor. A "good source of CALCIUM."

I have a couple of jars of atsara (pickled papaya) and pickled ginger strips in the ref, which don't claim to do anything or have any added nutrients. Hmmm?

... in response to I cant!, posted by Dave H on Aug 29, 2002

I eat the Lucky Me pancit about once a week that I buy at the Chinese-American Mini Mart.  I guess the "Hello Kitty" whatever it is is big in Asia.  Hello Kitty minidiscs are marketed by Sony.  On Philippine personal sites, I saw a girl wearing a "Hello Kitty" T-shirt.

Well, about fermenting, pickled stuff.  I remember that my ex-wife, back in the Philippines, kept fish guts in a jar fermenting with soy sauce (or other sauce?) for an extended period of time.  Although I thought it was gross, she wouldn't offer it to me anyway (at least at that point in time) because she knew I'd get sick.  Just imagine the impact on utots.  These certainly weren't "kosher" pickles, but in the end (or our relationship) she was super kosher in everything she believed in (like how she judged people).  When I think back, in the end, she scorned handicaps or people with physical disfigurements, yet when she was a child, at one time or another, she had live worms (round worms or nematodes) that lived in her body.  I guess herbal therapy expelled the worms.
