I can't believe a 10' x 4" stick of bamboo will cost me $25.00!!
On top of that i'll have to drive 50 mi to get it.
How hard can it be to import bamboo from the Philippines?
I'm thinking of changing my name from Humabdos to Bamboo.
I wounder how much Bamboo Sallie can bring on the plane?  Ten 6' sticks would be nice. What would they say at customs?

Hey Humaboo,

That's what I liked about the Sumisid Lodge in Moalboal: bamboo chairs, tables, beds, bowls, planting pots, ashtrays, walls... heck just about the whole building and everything in it.  You could get some good ideas on how to put things together from a place like that.

Hey Jimbo,

I was mighty partial to things made out of recycled tires. Shocked))) Soles on sandals, swings, tree guards, planting pots, fences, walls...

Hey Hum! Bamboo grows over here. In fact, it takes over, even chokes out blackberries. I can get you some starts if you want, your neighbors might not like you much in a year or two though!   Smiley

Yes I've been reading up on growing bamboo. A 30" deep barrier with 60 mil plastic and stainless steel clips are recommended to keep the runners from spreading. I'm not sure yet which type will be best for my backyard. Some can be grown in large containers.

Hey Bamboo,

Why not import it from Florida. It grows like a weed down here. Or try to grow your own...

Bamboo grows very well here in Oregon but not the kind you can make something out of.  Most of the furniture grade Bamboo comes from China or Vietnam. I've found a place near Portland Or that sells all kinds of bamboo that will grow well up here.  http://www.bamboogarden.com/index.shtml In a few years I'll have the back yard looking like Palawan!

Nice site Dave I love the Pig skin Bamboo! P5,000 for Bamboo? Sallie will think i'm Buang for sure!
Some of that Bamboo is good to -20.

Hey Hum, those are great names aren't they...This was one of my favorites of that site you pointed out. If I recall, when I was looking at the nipa hut construction on some places over in PI, they looked to have put some kind of coating on the bamboo, for possibly resistence from the weather or bugs..do you know what that is? Are you still planning on building a nipa hut?

Yes I would love to build a nipa hut here in Oregon but it would cost about $30,000! Construction grade bamboo goes for about $25 for a 10' 4" dia. I would love to make a nipa hut out of that black furniture grade bamboo.

Today I built a small table trimed in bamboo. Next time i'm in the Philippines i'll go to a bamboo furniture shop and see if they will give me a few tip on furniture building.

If I had my way everything I owned would be made of BAMBOO!
I even saw a bamboo bicycle while I was surfing Google for bamboo. I'm starting a furniture store called Bamboozled.

Given the Oregon climate being condusive to rain forest growth.  The Oregon climate is subtropical because it's on the western coast of a continent, much like France is to Europe.  In Europe's case, it's the Gulf Stream originating from the Carribean.  Palm trees grow in Ireland.  The also grow in Washington, which is at a more southern latitude than Ireland.  On that premise, they grow in Oregon too.  Probably, bamboo can be grown in Oregon as well.
