I was curious if any readers here have had any contact with members of the PBMA (Philippine Benevolent Missionaries Association) cult. I have been following the story for weeks about their “Divine Master”, Ruben Ecleo Jr., whom the cult members regard as Jesus Christ incarnate. He was wanted for the murder of his wife in Cebu in January, but has been hiding out on Dinagat Island in Surigao Del Norte.

The cult’s headquarters in San Jose, Dinagat, where my wife grew up with her family. Her family is among the few residents who are not members of PBMA, and she knows a lot of these people personally, including Ecleo’s murdered wife. I met many of them on my last visit there 2 years ago and they seem like nice friendly folks. But they are all caught up in this weird religious cult and were willing to die for their master. You wouldn’t believe the mansion this dude has sitting up on a hill overlooking the town. That place really sticks out like a sore thumb. Just about the whole island of Dinagat is run by the Ecleo family.

On Tuesday, the police and Philippine military showed up with troops, tanks, and attack helicopters to arrest Ecleo after he declared war on the military. In all, 23 people died in the shootout in San Jose or in Cebu.

I guess this a good example of what to look out for when hooking up with a Filipina over there. There are wacky religious cults in the Philippines just as there are over here. I feel sorry for the people who get involved in these cults, but I just don’t understand how they can fall for their propaganda.

Hey Ray,

There are plenty of "wacky religious cults" down here...one in every shopping center. Shocked)) Well, OK...I know that many of these churches are not wacky. But, botanicas, voodoo, and occult stores abound in the greater Miami area. In the morning, it is not unusual to find animal carcasses littering the roadways, dumped from the previous night's sacrifices.

Hi H,

ROFLMAO! Not too much left from my "sacrificial meals." Just a bag with some bones, napkins and empty ketchup packages. ;o)))

Watch out for the bags with the powder and whole chickens inside, with their throats cut. Shocked( Goats are real popular too...I guess they eat the pigs.

Cafe Voodoo! How much could meals cost with free meat - just some potatos, salad makings... You could make a killing - have a blue plate early bird special every day. All those retired folks are always on the lookout for a good cheap, hearty meal. Just need to get a Mexican cook. They know sure know how to make great chivas (birria and barbacoa!) and with grill marks and toasted garlic on those chickens, you'll probably never see the tire marks

Hi Jeff,

ROFLMAO!!! Thanks! I need a new business. At least none of the food will be kicking or flapping. It would kind of be like a glorified "Road Kill Cafe." Some chickens and chivas can be found already marinated with "Spiritual Seasoning," basil, marjoram, sage, rosemary, garlic, and salt. I could save a few more pesos that way. ;o)))

Matthew 24:4,5
4) And Jesus answered and said unto them, take heed that no man deceive you. 5) For many shall come in my name, saying I am Christ; And shall deceive many.
