Febtember,

I liked Hagonoy alot... but I am so white that I got sunburned easily. I used sunblock (spf 45) but I guess the Philippine sun is too strong for me OR the sunblock (which was supposed to be waterproof) washed off. Anyway, we grilled fish and had lots of food (and Tanduay) for a great picnic.

I am glad to hear of someone who has lived there before. Lyn is a Yaya for congressman Falcon's grandchildren there on the Falcon compound. I stayed at PCI the whole time and it was nice... it is really the only hotel there. I never went to Hinatuan, but I will visit the waterfalls there next time.

Kreeger,
Hagonoy Island is a private property of PICOP(Paper Industrial Company of the Philippines)maybe you notice the big paper company there.Part of the reason why my family live there till now because they still work in PICOP.I'm not sure who own the PCI maybe the city mayor in bislig(MR.Garay)  which happen to be my father second or third degree cousin. My folks in Mangagoy want's me to bring my hubby and intruduce to them. They were so honored and proud to have a new american member in our clan.I break the record coz I'm the only one married american in our family.Good thing about is that we always have our annual reunion in our clan every 25th of May.

Will you and your hubby be travelling to Mangagoy this May 25? Our wedding will be there but not until March 2003. She wants to graduate college first. She attends Andres Soriano college and has a major in elementary education. Yes, I wnt to 'the causeway' in PICOP and also, we walked 3 km from Danipas to Mangagoy coz there was no jeepney running. It was fun but she was very tired after that. I have very fond memories of that place. Maybe one day we can meet you and your husband when you are there... I hope so.

Great pics.  Glad this one worked out for you.  Where is Mangagoy?  I also had a great time with the all-day bike rental, on Camiguin.  It was only P500/400 but the bike was an older one with a bald back tire.  After 5 days my luck ran out and I got a flat.

Thanks. Mangagoy is basically in the municipality of Bislig, Mindanao. It is on the east coast of Mindano about 4 hours bus ride from Butuan. I have not done any diving in the Phils but I plan to when I go back. I have thought about having our honeymoon on Camiguin Island, and maybe I will dive there.

Very interesting.  East coast and well off the beaten path.  I can see why you got the celebrity treatment bigtime.  I'll bet the area has some great natural beauty, and maybe there is some pristine diving to be done there.  Bislig Bay looks like it could have some good reefs but I've never seen it mentioned in the Philippine dive web sites.

Next time I'm going to dive Dumagette/Siquidor.  So far I've done Bohol, Cebu, and Camiguin, with Bohol being the best.

Thanks... It was a private owner and it was a 'new' Kawasaki 125 (2 stroke) in good shape. The owner wanted P1000 for all day, but I talked him down to P800. I was satisfied with the price because I wanted to be the driver and I had the bike from 8am until dark (about 7pm). I got alot of riding in... filled the tank twice Smiley

I'm not much of one to write a trip report. However, I had a great time and found lots to do there. It was my third time to travel to the Phils... the first two being for another penpal, which turned out to be a false alarm.

I think that Bislig is the best kept secret (maybe not a secret) for those wanting to travel there without knowing anyone. Everywhere I went, girls were trying to talk to me.... even with Lyn on my arm. She said that they all wanted to "clone" me Smiley The people there are the friendliest to foreigners that I have seen in the Phils and there are more single girls there than you can imagine (and most wanted me to tell my friends about them).

The most fun I had was to rent a motorcycle for a day and explore places. We went to Lawigan (about 20 km south of Mangagoy) to see friends and to Bislig to see her family. I rode all over the place and had a blast on some old trails up on the 'bulubundockin' (sp?) or mountains. We also took a pumpboat out to Hagonoy Island for a day of picnicing and fun. I chased kids around (about 50 kids, aged 5-12, who had never seen a 'white' guy) and played tag in the water... also, they mobbed me, asking me to toss them up...I got one 6y/o kid up so high that he was able to do 2 full flips before he hit the water (future olympic diver).

Anyway.. I had alot of fun... and YES, I got engaged!

Thanks for reading,
Joe
