Every year on the 4th of July Weekend (6th July this year-I think) Houston has one big party along Bufalo Bayou at downtown Houston.  In years past there have been as many as 500,000 people attend.  There are 5-6 stages with free bands/music, a variety of carnival events, booths, etc.  The night usually ends with a massive 45-60 minute fireworks display just after dark which during this part of the year is 9-10 PM.  The event is free but there are lots of food/drink/suvenior stands.  The largest stage (usally called "Freedom Stage") has the best bands (for free of course) which in the past has included The Beach Boys and Chicago, many others and this occurs all day long.

I propose we have a big Texas/Fil-Am (MA/PL Party) in front of the Freedom Stage, 6th July.  Maybe we can pre-plan this thing and get t-shirts, hats, pins or all for everyone.  Being its on Saturday night it would be a good time for you out-of-state/towners to come see Houston and have one big event.  Its a safe family atmosphere.  Sometimes hot so bring umbrellas, water bottles, hats and frisbees.

This time we can sread the word to everyone by more than just posts.  Call everyone and invite/bring them.

Hi Bear,

I've got to agree with you on this. Houston knows how to throw a party and the Freedon Fest, is in my opinion, the best fourth of July party around. If I could make it there in July I would.
