Is $10 for an address too high?

my post of 3/25 on page 90 of the archives titled Bogota Vet.

If you plan on paying $10 for an address, plan on buying 50 or 100 of them. This entire method is no longer what it is cracked up to be.  Good luck.

Larry.

I pursued this route a few years ago, addresses and phone numbers to ladies in pi, and most if not all (but one), turned up to be duds.

It's just a normal thing that they don't keep the data updated.

Considering that I personally wrote to around 150 women during my search, I'd say $10 per address is way too high.  It's not untypical though for buying very low quantities of addresses.  Most agencies that sell addresses offer quantity discounts for purchasing large quantities of addresses.  I would suggest going with one of those.

Many newbies make the mistake of thinking they can select a single woman and write to her with a good chance that she's "the one."  I think it's much more typical that a man has to contact many ladies before finding the right one.  Remember, the ladies are doing at least as much choosing as the men are and there's no guarantee that the woman you find very interesting will find you equally as interesting or even respond at all.

I've found that the "typical" man searching for a Latin woman get's around a 20% response rate.  Some do better, some do worse and the variation can be dramatic.  A 55 year-old overweight, bald K-Mart security guard writing to beautiful 22 year-old women and requesting their measurements will probably get a 0% response rate while men writing to women closer to themselves in terms of overall attractiveness and writing good letters can get considerably better than a 20% response rate.  It just depends on how attractive the man is and how attractive the women he's writing to are.  Attractiveness can be many things, not just looks.  Maybe the average man searching for a Filipina gets a better response rate.  I don't know anything about that area of the world though.

The key is to access what you offer and gauge who you write to based on that and to write to many ladies.  Perhaps you won't really know how popular you'll be with the ladies until you've already written to quite a few, but you'll most likely never know how good your response rate is if you only write to a single lady or even a handful of ladies.  It's a game of statistics and you need a large enough sample size to gauge it accurately.

I was writing to 30-40 women each time I started the process and continued correspondence with the few who replied.  It was on my fourth round of doing this that I met my wife.  I paid way less than $10 per address because I bought in bulk and I would most likely have given up if I had only writen to 2-3 ladies the first try at $10 per address and received no replies.

STEPHEN:

Patrick, you are one mean dude.  (LOL)

Nate....you'll find that Patrick gives some very well thought out advice.  He's very practical.

I also agree that the rate of response from Asian ladies is higher.  I don't know why, but I got about 50-60 percent response.

Also, check out Connections Unlimited at love2cu.com.  It's listed here on the asian board I believe.  I found Tess through them.  I purchased an $80 package that allowed me to pick 50 names.  I think they have some very attractive ladies at that site.  I just sent them the photo of my sister-in-law to place on their site.

Also, you don't know what you're going to find in the lady.  You'll see a lady that looks like a knock-out, but she writes and sends another picture and it's not that attractive.  For example....I remember when I selected 50 ladies to write.....I put Tess back 4 times because it was not that good of a picture of her.  But when she wrote and sent a new photo she was a lot better looking.  You'll see what I mean when you get started.

The most important advice.....jump in and get started.

Best wishes.

I told my best friend in CA about that site he wrote one girl they wrote for about a year. He went to meet her(Philippines) and they spent two weeks together. He filed for a visa and they are now together living at Pismo Beach CA. They where just at my house and seem to be the perfect match.

My neighbor also meet 7 or 8 women through love2cu  He made three trips to meet penpals and wrote over 40 women and ended up marrying a friend of my Ex-wife's.

I met my wife thru One and Only. Free to browse profiles (100's of ads) and something like 20$ a month and you can write to as many as you want, they all have e-mails. Your first reply is sent to them via O&O, then she can e-mail you directly and go from there. It's free to place an ad. Don't know if the site or policies have changed in the last year or so, no reason to look, my wife wouldn't approve :-). When I was buying addresses(20-30), I'd get maybe 1-2 responses out of ten sent, plus wait a month or more. The same letter sent thru O&O, I'd recieve 7-8 replies out of 10, in 1-3 days. It worked for me, your mileage may vary. Add usual disclaimer here,

... in response to $20 got me 100's of addys, posted by SJ on May 13, 2002

Yeah....I* used them also.  They have some nice ladies.

But watch out for what happened to me.

I emailed about 20 ladies and then when a couple wrote back there was not that much information for me to connect them with with photo.  I was trying to figure out which lady responded.

That can be embarrasing.

Been There, Did that also :-)  When my wife to be, wrote back, it was a week or so after I had written her, so I had deleted her profile, I was desperate to link the profile to this new and great response. She had been sick and couldn't make it to the Internet Cafe. Fortunatly, I was able to connect her job discription back to her original profile..the rest is history. It IS easy to get carried away, send LOTS of letters and then get OVERWHELMED with responses.

Yeah....It's good to know that others have done foolish things also.

Here's another real dumb one that I did.

I bought a package from Connections Unlimited for about $75 that gave me 50 addresses of my choosing.  So I picked out the addresses and I stayed up all night putting out letters on my computer.

I wrote a basic letter and changed the name for each lady....or I was supposed to change the name for each lady!

Anyway, at about 3:00 am I forgot to change the name of the lady.....so about 5 or 6 letters when out addressed to one lady and using a different name in the letter.  Talk about feeling like a fool.

Well, all's well that ends well.

sent 2-3 intro letters to the same girl, so...."Amy" would get three letters from me..."Dear Amy", "Dear Gwen" and "Dear Lori"...never did hear from "Amy"
My wife got a kick out of the fact that she had placed an ad and her friend placed an ad for my wife, without her knowing it, with a different photo. I wrote to both ads. Now we joke of how desperate she was to find anyone and how desperate I was to get her........

Seems about average.
I would look at AFA as a benchmark and compare against their prices for services.  You could find cheaper if you need less support in contacting her.

I wouldn't buy too many addresses at that rate.

Depends.  Maybe a couple are okay.

She must be a good looking lady.

I bought four last week at an effective price of $8 per address.  I think I've got plenty to keep busy for the time being.  This time around, I e-mailed one girl.  I called another girl and the conversation went very well.  We talked a long time about alot of different things.  There is a letter and pictures on its way.  I don't want to count my chickens before they hatch, but I think that just maybe, there might be something special there.  Too early to honestly tell.

Well, if things don't pan out with this one, I'll just buy more addresses and write/e-mail/call on an ad-hoc basis.
