Ok, here it is the alltime record for cheapness. my last trip was
3wks cost me 2200, i have whittled down many of those expenses including airline, hotels, etc etc,
Next trip to the phils i can fly last minute courier for 300RT
plus my air to San fran adds up to about 550, my landlord gives me
half rent if i leave for a whole month and turn off the utillies
etc, so thats 225 extra to spend, which will pay for the month
rental of the condo in the phils.

So now im still at 550 for airfare and condo since i would have paid
the condo rental money in the u.s.a anyway for my rent. I spent about 20 bucks a day last trip with my gf , on .........Food, cabs, bowling,
skating, malls, blah blah blah, So thats 30x20=600 for one month
for "entertainment"..........But, i spend about 500 a month in the u.s.a on food, gas, movies, etc, so 500 of the 600 I would have spent here anyway. So only add 100 for "entertainment."..........Since i have a gf in phils, and i dont hang out in bars and buy drinks for strange women, etc, i save that expense.

So far.........550 plane, condo free since rent discount here,
and 100 more for entertainment, adds up to 650...................
add another 350 for miscellaneous entertainment. and thats 1000 bucks for a month in the phils including airfare.

Yes, im cheap but next year when i sell some of my property i will splurge a little bit and not be so kuriput. Just goes to show it doesnt have to cost an arm and a leg to go the phils.

I can beat that, but I am cheating.

I had occasion to go to the Philippines in a quasi- official, ostensibly private capacity, but managed to cheat and bring Vicky with me. More than a month, less than a year ;-)

We flew out in a USAF cargo plane; cost = zero (unless you count Vick's airsickness. USAF planes don't coddle passengers and get bumpy). Vicky stayed with her family while I was about my business; cost = zero. I had my food, sleeping arrangenents and "entertainment" taken care of; cost = zero. I was paid standard rate for the trip and the "business", plus hazard pay; profit = US$5,452 minus some blood and stitches. After business I stayed with Vicky's family; cost = US$300 (lost to Uncle in several evenings of snooker and brandy, the hustling scoundrel). Having stitches removed at home by Uncle's family doctor; cost = US$25 (including three followup house calls). Vicky shopping, and dancing and fun, etc., after stitches out; cost = US$3,000. Flew home with ticket covered by government; cost = zero.

Net cost of trip = profit to me of US$2,127 - less a little blood.

-Don

PS: I said I was cheating

and depending on ones level of (boy scout) comfort, you could spend as little as 100 bucks a week and still enjoy yourself.  Just don't sweat what crawls on the walls at night.

I'm leaving for russia on sunday, and it's a very tight budgeted trip.  200 bucks for 8 days of apartment rental, and who knows what else, I just don't go for a wet cold butt on frozen pavement.  :-)
