Now I know why you don't go to Miami!

Miami Wins Rudest-Driver Honors
City Also Named Most Unsafe to Drive In

.c The Associated Press

MIAMI (May 22) - For the second straight year, a survey of drivers in several major cities has ranked Miami motorists as the rudest.

Miami received an "F'' in manners in a survey released Tuesday by the Steel Alliance, a steel industry association.

Drivers in the high-octane city are more likely to tailgate, honk their horns and make inappropriate gestures than their counterparts in Boston, Chicago, Cleveland, Dallas, Denver, Detroit, Los Angeles, Seattle and Washington, D.C.

The survey said 57 percent of Miami drivers admitted to four or more ``aggressive'' acts. Fifty-eight percent of the city's drivers admitted to honking their horn regularly, compared with 26 percent in all the cities surveyed.

When it comes to high beams, 26 percent of Miami motorists flash them regularly - nearly twice as much as the average among drivers in the survey.

Miami also was named one of the most unsafe cities to drive in, finishing third behind Boston and Washington, D.C.

Seattle was the safest city, followed by Detroit, Cleveland, Chicago and Los Angeles.

The unscientific survey questioned 2,000 licensed drivers about habits in their city. Based on survey results, safety and rudeness grades were assigned to each of the 10 cities.

The paper here in Houston posted more useless surveys today saying that although we a #19 in being overweight that we are #3 in health compared to other states.  It also said that the average driver here is less stressed out that other places in the country making people more confidant in over-speeding.

Hi Hum,

I felt justified when I heard that on the news. I have been ranting since we got here about the drivers here. They are positively the RUDEST azzholes in the country, as far as driving. Most people are much friendlier here than in Houston, but Houston drivers are by far more polite. They just like to drive fast in Houston. Going 95+ MPH on and off the freeway I can handle. Cutting you off and NEVER using signals, is what I can't handle.

Hey Hum,

LOL When they're not flipping you off, they're shooting at you! You can't use your turn signal to change lanes or they will cut you off. The most dangerous intersection in the US (State Farm) is a mile from my house.

We once had to restrain an off-duty Miami cop who chased a motorist into our fire station, pulled his gun, hand cuffed him, and then began to beat him. The supervisor told us that it wasn't the first time he'd attacked motorists while off-duty, driving his private car.

Hi Kreeger,

Good ole Pines and Flamingo. I really didn't think it was anywhere near that bad. There are lots of retired snowbirds that live nearby and the Miamians like to come up to the county park and shopping malls. I guess they like to meet the hard way. Oakland Park and Federal has to be up there too.

I remember years ago... going to CB Smith and witnessing a head-on where 6 people died. Someone tried to beat the light and hit a family van trying to turn left onto Flamingo... body parts everywhere. They estimated that the guy who hit them was going over 100.

Hey Kreeger,

WOW...you were there! That was a bad one. There sure has been a lot of people killed on Flamingo Rd. Can you imagine, I used to ride that road to work on my bicycle at 6:00 AM and come home on it the next day at 7:00 AM...I must be nuts! I got ran off the road numerous times and flipped off of my bike a couple. One of my friends got ran over, but lived to tell about it. Even though it was outside of the city where I worked, I've been called there to extricate people out of cars. I remember one guy in a Mustang traveling at 100+ MPH, hit a Cadillac head on. The passenger in the Mustang died and 3 people in the Cadillac. They were all entangled and stuffed into the back seat and window.

Houston wasn't even mentioned!!  They tell us here we're the worst so I think you can take all those polls and burn them because they are just manipulations of numbers used by those who benefit financially.

Hey Bear,

Miami is Crazy! 57% of Miami-Dade County's 2.2 million residents were foreign born, according to a Census report. There is no other major metropolitan area that has that high a percentage in the nation. An estimated 61 percent of city of Miami residents came from foreign countries. Other cities in Miami-Dade have higher percentages (Hialeah-70.4% in 1990) of foreign born residents. Add to that their children born in the US. Not much English spoken here!

The survey also estimates that Broward County's (Ft. Lauderdale) foreign-born population is now 26 percent of the county's 1.6 million residents. Broward ranked tenth in the nation in its foreign-born population.

cause we have best restaurants in the country.  But even the "fat" story is a bunch of bunk.  Part of the up coming liberals play to sue the food industry for causing obesity by over serving portions of food and putting too much fat and sugars in them.  I haven't believed surveys since I took Communications in college and was taught how to manipulate the data.
