... in response to Germans in RP?Huh, posted by greg on May 7, 2002

Greg,

It has been my experience that most single German men roaming the bars in the Philippines are obnoxious, and sometimes dangerous. Much more so than the regular funloving, drunken whoremongers of other nationalities, in the bars. Hence, they tend to congragate in "German Bar's". Humabdos is not a drunk or a whoremonger, so I suspect he is running into these kind of Bars. Especially if he is off of Luzon. The Aussie's and Americans operate Angeles, yet there are a few German Bars every where. More Europeans operate buissinesses in other parts of the Philippines, especially around Visayas,

I do remember one German bar in Manila, but that was a long time ago. Two buddies and I were wandering around one afternoon near the embassy and we saw a nice looking new bar named the “Daktari”. It so happens that it just opened for business and we were the very first customers. A nice little place decorated in an African theme (he even had a live ocelot on a leash) with a fantastic sound system. The German owner was a nice friendly chap and we were the only customers in the place for hours. After we bought a couple of San Miguels, the owner asked us if we would like a “real” beer. He pulled out his private stock of German beer and we drank two cases with him, at no charge. Seems that the German embassy provides their citizens overseas with a generous supply of good beer from the fatherland at Christmas time. Why can’t the American Embassy do that??

The kitchen wasn’t officially open for business yet, but he wanted to try out some of his recipes on us, so he fixed up a whole bunch of wiener schnitzel, home-made sauerkraut, German potato salad, etc., again at no charge. Great food!

Hey, if all the German-owned bars in the Phils are like that, who’s complaining? :-)

Hi Ray,

Just fror the record,I wasn't really thinking of you about fart humor. I was speaking to those that had gone "over the top" recently. You didn't qualify. Not this week anyway. Smiley I was just pizzing off the top of my soapbox anyway, just ignore it.

Anyway, I've had quite a few good times in "German Bar's" myself. I just think that Hum is running into these types of bar's in his travel's around. He's not going to Angeles, obviously. It's not his thing. So he is getting the impression that they are all German bar's! LOL! Lot's of German's around the diving area's. We're going to the Philippines next March. I think I'm going to spend my time learning to dive and do a little flying. I must stay sober! Smiley I shoulden't have a problem with the German bars, just the Aussie bars. I love to party with Aussie's! LOL! There shoulden't be to many Aussie bar's around the provinces, though.

Funny thing...my youngest Filipina sister-in-law can't understand a word I say unless I speak with a British accent and pronounce words accordingly. I'm starting to get used to the Filipino pronunciation. My wife speaks excellent English, but hardly a day goes by when I don't learn at least one "new" English word that I'm not familiar with. Shocked))) The name "Phoebe" was a particular challenge, until my wife paired it with "Cates." Sometimes she will spell the word. All and all we've had some fun and a lot of laughs over pronuciations. If I laugh too hard, my wife reminds me that the Philippines is the third largest (Population) English speaking country in the world and that I speak "American" English which she likes to refer to as "slang." Shocked)))

Ahhh   Phoebe Cates   one  of  the  prettier  unsung  actresses  out  there.  Some  of  her  movies  have  have  been pretty good ---  Fast Times  at  Ridgemont High  and Princess Cariboo  While  others  Drop Dead Fred  and Gremlins  were  kind  of  a waste of  Celluloid.  I always  had  a  thing  for  her  though,  and  I  was  watching  Drop  Dead  Fred  again  this  week  just  to  see  how  attractive  she  is.   Kevin Kline is a lucky man !

As  for  your  Accent  you're  a  Mich-i-gander  right?  are You  from  the  U P?  Or  have  you  developed  a  Cubano Accent / twang.  I  suppose  either  one  would  Justify  your  sister  in  laws  confusion  ha ha ha.

Jeff

I  didn't  know  that  but I suppose it makes sense.  Her father  was/is  a  directer I  thought  I  once  heard.

It's  funny  the  one  girl  at  work  who  is  really  attractive to me above  all  the  rest of  the  caucasian  girls is  Hawaiian  and  I  think  a  1/4  asian.  So  subliminally  maybe  I  can  tell.  Totally  unaware  on  Phoebe  though.

I  am  writting  with  a  Japanese  girl  now  who  lives  in Reseda    34    5  foot 6   pretty  cute too from  her  picture.(ohhhh my gahhhd  she's  a  valley  girl, Tubular ya know  ha ha ha).  But  apparently  she  is  a  smart  cookie at  least.  Just  graduating  with  a  Masters  in Business Administration from Cal Northridge.  She  is  just  looking  for a male  friend  to  hang  out  with and  not  a  relationship quite  yet.  She  is  concentrating  on  looking  for  a job right  now.  But  since  I  live 60 miles  away anyway  what more  can I  offer  realistically  with  my  wacky  schedule.   But  she has  e-mailed  me  3  times  since  last thursday  so  that  is  promising  at  least.  I'll  have  to  bake  a  linzer  tart  and get  some  French chocolates  for  her  when  we  finally can meet.

What  I  think  is  Ironic  is  that  her  name  is Eri  and  mine  is  Eric.  If  we were to  hook  up  romantically, we  could  have  a  lot  of  fun  with  this when  the telemarketers  call  at  dinner  time  ha ha ha

They never could figure out a good thing, it's why the US was always there first, not the germs, and definitely not the stinkin french.... (even if they tried).
