I'mn from Galati, about 2-3 hours north-east from Bucharest - right on the Danube.
Since you've been to Poiana Brasov, maybe take a trip to Sinaia? Haven't been there in a while, but I liked it. That or Predeal, not sure how touristy they've become. But I always liked taking the ski-lifts and then hiking (alas, my torn ligaments make it really hard for me to do that now).
If you get a chance, go to Sighisoara - it's a beautiful medieval town. The west of the country is a lot cleaner and more prosperous, as a rule, and the cities in Transylvania are beautiful. If you get to spend more time there, I'd advise a trip to northern Moldavia - the monasteries are gorgeous (one closer to Bucharest is the Monastery of Arges, interesting legend connected with it). The ones in the north are covered with exterior frescoes - very rare.
This brings me to Stefan cel Mare - Steven the Great. He was a Moldavian prince in the 15th century who was very valiant and fought the Turks and the Tartars - lots of legends about him and his court. He was very religious, and legend has it that he erected a monastery or pledged riches to churches after every major battle. He was canonized as a saint recently.
Hope this helps ) Have fun and avoid them gypsies
