Woman to face raps for ‘hacking’ neighbor
By Oscar C. Pineda
FOR interfering with her sister’s fight, a woman in Barangay Suba-Basbas will be facing an attempted homicide complaint after she repeatedly hacked her neighbor in the head and hand yesterday morning.
Lapu-Lapu City Homicide Chief Geoffrey Baguio will file a case against Cherry Encarnacion, 23, who yielded a 16-inch bolo during her arrest.
The victim, Susan Baguio Dechavez, 36, sustained hack wounds in the right wrist and left side of her head. She also had bite marks on the left knee and right arm.
She was declared safe yesterday after receiving stitches for her wounds.
Police also confiscated an 18-inch bolo from Dechavez, who said it was only for self-defense.
But she said she could hardly defend herself, as Encarnacion’s cousin in-law, Dario Canono, 16, held her hands during the fight.
According to police, the fight was between Cherry’s sister, Leah, and Dechavez.
Dechavez earlier confronted Leah and accused her of “poisoning the mind” of her friend May, who is also Leah’s sister.
May had told Dechavez that Leah told her to be careful, as Dechavez is a “traitor.”
The confrontation early yesterday morning led to a fight.
Barangay tanods Martin Tero 51, and Narciso Amodia, 56, were able to pacify them the first time.
But at past 9 a.m., Dechavez and Leah, accompanied by Cherry who was bringing a bolo, met again.
The women were already wrestling with their bolos when Tero and Amodia arrested them.
Dechavez said she was merely asking her child Derin to go home when the suspect confronted her.
“She was holding a weapon, so I went home and also got my bolo,” she said in Cebuano.
