Hello and thanks in advance. As you might remember, I've been asking questions on and off since last summer. The time is growing near and I will be leaving on June 3 for Cebu. I'll be there for three weeks. I am visiting one person. I live in South Texas and usually wear shorts and Haiwian shirts with sandals. I have heard some say that shorts may not be acceptable in the city. I would appreciate any suggestions about what clothes, or anything else, that I should take. I'll be staying, initially at least, at Eddies Hotel. Any help would be appreciated. I am a School teacher and am on a budget.
Thanks again and God bless,
captain David

take a course in "ladle and bucket" usage. If anyone can explain it to him go ahead. I am still confused to how it actually is supposed to be done.

almost all Comfortrooms doesn't have available toilet tissue. Many things we take for granted in America isn't available there, sooo don't forget to bring your special medicine, etc

4 pairs of shorts is good, i took way too many clothes
take white handkercheifs to wipe your brow, a small cheap 35mm camera on a belt bag came in very handy for me, i took tons of film. I did not take long jeans or dress shirt, but good idea to. Take a nice pair of durable sandals with good soles on them. Suntan lotion is a must, but the sun is not too harsh there, i got sunburned bad in puerto galera but did not peel like i do in the high mountains of new mexico.

On the airplane, take one carry on bag, with rollers, you wont regret the rollers, i took a gym bag type with me to manila 14 lbs no wheels, regretted it since LAX, and tapei airport are huge, bring a rectangular carry on bag with wheels and lots of pockets. for your clothes etc,
Then bring a backpack for snacks on the plane you will need them if you go on china airlines, any airline is a long long flight from los angeles and you cannot count on the stewardesses to feed you. Bring cookies, chips in the backpack, plus store your airline tickets, passport, etc, in the backpack, which you keep at your feet.

Anything you think you will need while you are on the plane put in the backpack, Next trip i will carry a large plastic cup also 3 or 4 cans of my fav soda on the plane since the stewardesses are chincy with drinks, i will just say fill this cup with ice, thats all i need.

Open an email account with yahoo, hotmail etc, and email to yourself before you leave, your passport number, credit card numbers, phone numbers for cc companies, the telephone number for your airline or travel agent, etc, in case you lose your passport, Credit cards etc you can go to any internet cafe and login. Also put addresses of friends you want to send postcards to and email addresses of friends you may want to email.

Most major hotels accept Cc but smaller ones dont, i pay hotel with debit card, take about 1000 cash and change as you go, Keep money, CCs, passport etc in hotel safe deposit box if they have one.

All in all hope these few tips helped, the other guys on the board know way more than i do.

If you plan to extend your trip beyond 21 days, if you have any possibility you may want to do this, immediately start the process in manila when you arrive i think a travel agency can do it in 3 days for 50 bucks, i wanted to extend to one month, but could not since i tried at the last minute.

Have a great trip.

try not to check any luggage if you can avoid it,
one carry on bag with a backpack is more than enough.
with all the plane changes, if you check your luggage
you will regret it.
good luck finding your luggage if you are in manila and the luggage went to India.

most airlines allow the total length plus the width plus the height of your carry on bag to not exceed 45"

there is a bag sold in most luggage places which all the
travelers carry, which is the standard carry on with wheels and telescopic handle, so make sure the carry on fits this.

Don't worry about the shorts thing however you may not be allowed in some places with open toe shoes on. Bring one nice pair of pants and a pair of jeans three or four pair of shorts. It's summer time In the Philippines it will be 90+ everyday. You should be able to get by on $40 or less per day including motel. If you can take the super cat fast ferry over to Siquijor Island and stay at the Coral Cove Resort Very nice! Rooms from P600 to $25 with air con.  Humabdos

Depending on your skin sensitivity to adverse heat/sweat conditions (everyone's different), I'd take gold bond instead of regular baby powder. The little stuff, though, is often overlooked when one ventures out of his domain:

1.  Motrin/Advil/Tylenol/ whatever works for headaches.
2.  Some good old allergy/anti-histamines, (advil for sinus etc, or sinu-tab)...
3.  A standard bottle of campho-phenique and/or polysporin for anything that well, you know.
4.  Peto-Bismal tablets.

These are small, require almost no room whatsoever, but they will be a lifesaver if you're ever in a bad sit...

--------------------
take lots of underwear and SOCKS!
Try NOT to look too much like a tourist.  Take some brown spray paint and ...
just kidding.
but DO keep your wits about you and

have fun!

(in moderation).

I agree with Hum.  Take 1 pair of Dockers/jeans and 4 pairs of shorts.

I have been to the Phils two times.  The first time I took WAY TOO MUCH clothes.  Pack light.

Also, take some Johnson's baby powder.  It will  cut down on heat and especially rashes.  I couldn't have made it without it.

Best wishes.
