I think it is an exciting time to be going, but who knows if it will even be possible to get there by then.  This was just supposed to be a short trip for me.  They are wishing I would change my mind and cancel this trip at work.

...don't listen to the weenies at work. Come on, are ye man or mouse? Don't let it bother you half the population is pissed cuz your country is meddling in their internal  affairs and threatening to punish them all if they don't tote the line Wink

Like Dan I'd be there in a hearbeat if I could but I just can't swing it right now. Not only for the history but cuz Ukrainians are capable of turning even serious business like this into a good time.

Btw, I hope you've got a place to stay all set up. I read that flat rentals are up 150 to 300% due to this. Also, better enjoy it. It may be your last visit for awhile. Now that Powell has spoken the common response from State is to revoke the visas of foreign officials associated with this kind of thing. Ukraine will likely reciprocate. Whether they carry it on to visitors is anyone's guess.

Take heart though, it could be much worse: Powell's replacement could be in charge.

With 24 weeks per year off why can't you swing it?  Unemployment doesn't pay enough?

...However, be careful just the same. The PM's supporters are also coming out in droves. If it does come to blows it's gonna be between both groups with the cops in the middle. More like a civil clash among the people than unrest directed against the gum'mint. Not a pretty thought.

Wonder why it didn't hapen here? Most wags claim the Amercian people have much more faith in the process. Lol, I wonder where *that* notion came from? We The Sheeple...

Clearly, nonvoilent and sends a message of slowing the economy up or actually, just makes people pissed off even more.

Course, it seems like everybody will have contempt for their government for generations to come after soviet rule.

...You're a farmer kinda guy right? I have a question I've always wondered about. I'm serious here, not pullin yer leg.

Riddle me this: Why is it I can only buy eggnog during the holidays? People like it and there is money to be made so why can't I find it say, in July? I know it can be homemade but I'm talking about the commercial stuff.

Whats the deal with this? Is it a health issue? Market driven? Gum'mint conspiracy? There are plenty of egnnog resources on the internet but I've yet to find a definative answer and I've tried. Lol, it's bugged me for some of the way too much free time I obviously have.

Good question.

But if you want to be creative get yourself some buttermilk and add some spice to hand a stiff bourbon and wha-lah serve it to your friends and they'll never know the difference.

Summer time Eggnog.

To jump on a plane and witness history in the making.

Unfortunately, I am unable right now - but Phil, if it were me, I'd be seeing if I could move the flights UP.

Enjoy.

I would cancel the trip and wait until this boils over one way or another.  See if you can delay it with the air-line.
If violence breaks out things could get messy.

This is a very historical moment and you can be there.  I expect there will be more posturing and negotiations than bloodshed.  The world is watching and neither side can afford to be seen as the bad guy.  This right now is merely Slavic muscle flexing.  Arm wrestling. Expect more of it.

Last night Kuchma put up military roadblocks to prevent thousands more who are trying to make it to Kiev.  Should be an interesting day. Bon voyage.

I expect there will be a deal later this week. The only palatable deal is for a completely new election.  But,  who knows?

It most certainly looks cold out there in the masses!  I recall a student demostration when I was there, nothing messy.  But you most certainly didn't want to get in their way.

I can think about a million different reason to put off going now, verses in the summer time....ok, one reason - short skirts.

But hey, that's me.
