Adjustment of status forms

If someone can clarify i would appreciate it.

When filing I-130 it asks for proof of my citizenship.  I do not have a copy of my birth
certificate.  It says i can send them my passport.  When will i get my passport back?  

Does anyone have a check list of what they filed when they adjusted status?

DO NOT send your passport! A photocopy of your certified birth certificate is best for proof of citizenship, but you can also submit a photocopy of your complete passport (all pages).

What status are you adjusting from? The Form I-130 is not normally part of the AOS package for most K-visa holders if that is your entry status. The Forms I-485, G-325A, and I-864 are normally required, with optional Forms I-765 and I-131 depending on your current status.

I'll have to photcopy my passport.  I don't have time to get my birth certificate.

we're adjusting from K1.
Do we have to send in her actual I-94 or only a copy of it?

Gman,

Have her hang on to the original I-94 because she will probably need it. Send photocopies of all documents except for the immigration application forms. Remember to copy both sides of a document if there is anything at all on the back side.

Before you mail your petition, check with your local CIS office to see if they will accept walk-in applications for Adjustment of Status. It’s a good idea to do the walk-in if they allow it because they will hand check all your documents at the counter and tell you on the spot if anything is missing, etc.  I would also have separate checks for each form and for biometrics if required.
