Sorry to hear about your end.   sounds like your experience was no different than many of us that get involved with American women.  Hummmmmm food for thought.

How did she ever manage to get a tourist visa to the US?  I thought that was impossible?

Regarding the issuance of visas, relatively few tourist visas are issued compared with the number of applications, especially post-9/11.  But there are probably about 100,000 young, single Eastern European women walking around the NYC/NJ metro area who got here on tourist visas over the past dozen years or so, many of them recently, so it is not an impossiblity.  (And nearly every city in the US has developed a core Russian-Eastern European population since 1990, so there have to be some visas being issued out there.)

My ex-wife had traveled around the world with a professional ethnic folk dance company and previously had traveled to western Europe for both business and vacation, plus she came from a fairly wealthy family.  She could demonstrate the she had returned to her country in the past.  When she applied for a US tourist visa at her consulate office 6 years ago, several of her friends also received their visas that day (and one was arbitrarily rejected).  All found husbands, all are presently divorced, and all are living happily in Brooklyn.

All are divorced!!!!!  thanks for your post. I frankly believe that many if not most of such women just want to live here, and will divorce once they are here.

Perhaps it would be nice for you to share your experience with your wife's friends about who they married, age differences and what reasons they gave for divorcing.

thanks

...It's not impossible to get a tourist visa, just difficult. If you've been around here a while you may recall I spend two weeks last year showing a couple young girls from Russia around the western USA. While a little monkey business was involved in obtaining those visas other young single women can often get one too.

It's exactly as Powerlifter said. Also one needs to understand how the US comes up with visa restriction rules in the first place. It's all done by analyzing historical data based on how many were issued versus how many were abused. In the case of the FSU (as well as certain other countries) the record is not good at all. Contrary to popular belief, the government has good data on when a visitor abuses their visa, they know who stayed and who left. The problem of abuse is so massive they simply don't have the resources (and thus priorities) to chase them down...so they add the country to the "list" and attempt to screen those applicants more carefully in the first place.

Thats why a history of returning home after prior entries (regardless of the type visa used for the prior entry) is a very important part of the equation. How to build a history if they can't get a visa? Well, it's not as catch 22 as it first appears. The US looks at an individual's "performance" when visiting other countries in Western Eroupe that have a history of visa violations by visitors. For example, FSU women who have obtained a Schengen and visited Italy, GB, Germany, etc, stand a better chance. Even returning from countries like Egypt, Turkey, Israel, etc carry some weight, though not as much as Western Eroupe.

I am still considering just meeting her in the Dominican republic if she can get a direct charter flight, but I can not find any information on charters.
