Don't know anything about the Philippines but don't want to appear stuffy. I enjoyed your comments. Where do you hail from?

No, not really planning to go, but would love to read about your trip. I've been married to a wonderful Japanese lady for many years. I've also been to a number of places in the Far East but not the Philippines. Sure like the Albuquerque area, though. Too bad there's no ocean there Shocked)

I only know two Filipinas in person, Tess, and one of the the checkout girls at Marukai, the big Japanese grocery store in Gardena. I try out words I learn here on this board, on her, usually responded to with giggles and smiles.

Hi Outwest,

You just gotta be patient and allow us burned out old farts a little time to respond. ;o)) I am stuffy...for real. I thought I was going to have to die to feel better. Thanks to the excellent care of my loving wife...I think I'm going to make it through this terrible (10+ days) flu. Now if I can only get my voice back. Shocked(

I am happy that you had a GREAT time! From your post, it sounded better than a kid visiting Disney World. Don't beat yourself up for not going 5 years sooner...you finally made it! It sure would be nice if you could spend several months there at a time...a dream of mine also.

Hey Outwest,

I forgot! It's better than Disney, since you're the star attraction...kind of like being Mickey Mouse...without the restrictions. 8:o) It's strange when you get back...I wanted to ask people here why they didn't stare at me and call me guwapo. Shocked(

Hi Outwest,

I was too tired to post last night after work when I read your post. I WAS going to say however, how refreshing it is to see someone who can go to the Philippines especially Manila and see it for the intertesting place it is and not just complain about traffic etc. Good for you. Your the kind of person I could travel with.

Glad ya finally made it, man!

You know, that's strange, but I had a much better time in Manila this time than I did the first time I went.

However, I had just dismissed it as being because I had spent a week in Butuan City prior to coming to Manila.  Heck....any place would be exciting after spending a week in Butuan City.

Hi Stephen,

So, Batuan City ain't so rockin',huh? Well, Manila is a cool city to me. Might have something to do with me running the streets there as a kid. It hasn't changed too much since then. Except the traffic. Best at night. Lots of nice resuraunts and clubs to go with your wife.

I remember back in the mid 70's when there was a curfew from 1-4AM. The whole city was quiet with no traffic except an ocassional police truck. It was fun sneaking around as kids with a whole city like a ghost town. Hard to imagine now.

Did you guys make it to Boracay?

Welcome Back btw,
Jay

Outwest 77

Yes  it  is  possible  that maybe  the  mentality  of  the  board  has  shifted slightly.  I  think  as  a  group we  have  had  several  visa's  go  though  and long  awaited  reunions  occur  which  takes  time  away  from members posting  as  frequently.

I  have  been  getting  some  overtime  in lately  so  I  am  fried when I  come  home  sometimes.  I  am  also  juggling  my  time  to  try  to  keep  up  with  forming  and  maintaining  friendships  with people  in  Japan.  If  everything  goes  according  to  plan  I  am  shooting  for  Jan / Feb  for  a  visit so  then  I  suppose  I  will owe  a  trip  report  of  my  own  ha ha ha

I  myself enjoy  all  of  the trip  reports I  read.  But  since  I  rarely  have  a  frame  of reference  to comment  on,  I  stay  in  lurker  mode.

Thanks  for  pointing  this  observation out  though.  I  think  it  is  funny  how  somedays  there  will hardly  be  any  activity  and then  other  days  there  will be  6 - 7 new  main topics.

I think that perhaps you might be frustrated about not having a prompt response.  Anyways I'd like to say a few things.

First, I'm kind of busy to post a response to every liuttle thing.  Others are probably the same way.  Many probably can't give you a straightforward answer off the bat.  Now, there's the topic search engine feature in the archives section of Planet Love.  That should help to a great extent as this feature sorts by topic the material from all past, archived posts.

About the clique mentality, I agree with you on that.  It's another reason why I don't post so often.  I've discovered that when I post about something, good or bad, I'm subject to the persistent disdain of one or more belligerents.  This undermines the integrity of the board atmosphere to be an objective discussion forum because it only instills fear in some of saying the wrong thing even if it should be said.  I've built up a big enough network in my circle regarding Fil-Am, and a much friendlier atmosphere too, matters that I don't need to rely on the integrity of some of the posters on this board who really aren't here to help but to hinder.

Well, I could even refer you to a Fil-Am website in my area that has links to others  Maybe when I have the web address handy, I'll give it to you.  That site and the links it provides to others in the U.S.A. and beyond (including Iceland) should provide you with the means to some good information about matters such as calling cards and airfares.

Good luck.

- Kevin
