Satellite TV

Anyone know of companies that provide some Russian channel options for a satellite? I'm looking at getting a dish this winter and it would be nice if my wife could watch some things in her own language.

Thanks for the replies. I'm checking out "blackbird" receivers right now. Not sure of the legalities but it sounds interesting. Anybody know about these or know where to find some clear info?

Hey zink: maybe this is something You could also look into.
when I lived in new york,there is a paper called "the daily news" On sunday they have something called "russian beat" has all the news about The fsu.Maybe thats something You can look at.Also as i know in major cities,like new york,boston,etc! there are newspapers each day in russian,spanish,italian and greek and so and so forth

Dish Network has two stations.  The cost here is $25 or so per month more for these two stations which only program old Russian movies and American news translated in Russian ie. there really is few to no programs currently on in Russia on Dish.  However, just hearing / seeing programs in Russian is a plus for your wife.  It helps her feel comfortable etc. during stressful times, or times when she is a bit homesick etc.

Dish Network has three channels of Russian programing. One package has two channels (RTV and another with old Soviet era movies and cartoons) and the other is RTV International. The feed is via a satelite somewhere over the Pacific so you will have to buy another dish to pick it up ($50) and hope you have a clear horizon to the west as it is low in the sky even here in CA.

Both are $25/month so my bill is right at $100 but when the in-laws were here this summer it was as they say, "priceless". My father-in-law is addicted to a certain soap opera and he didn't miss a show.

The news portions are out of NY so they are a little less sensationalistic and with out as much of an anti-American slant.

My internet is incredibly slow here. I know of a couple other websites where I can watch Russian tv but it doesn't work well for me. I'm looking into getting highspeed internet with the satellite as well. I live in the middle of nowhere so cable isn't an option.
