Yes, before a new month begins my wife will repeat the oath that makes her an American citizen.

coooool.

I think as this happens to more and more men they might begin to refer to their wifes as 'a Russian born American woman'.

John will your wife forgo her Ukraine passport now and get an American passport?

Irina will get an American passport.  This will make returning home a much less stressful event.

Marina's mother and grandmother are not in the best of health.  So until she is forced to do it, Marina will stay with her Ukrainian passport and greencard.  Why?  So, in case of emergency, she can immediately catch a flight back home, without having to wait for a visa stamp in her passport.

Our case is a bit unusual though.  For others, the American passport would be more convenient to carry instead of the Ukrainian passport.  When we decide to vacation in France, hopefully Marina's passport will be American by then.  Otherwise, it will be one of those headaches...

Give yourself some extra time.  The hoops were typically French, who learned their trade from the BCIS.  The twelve pages of financial  requiremens that I kept faxing to them went to an inoperable machine.  (Be sure to apoligize for this mistake, as they won't)  For you both to be on similiar passports reduces the chances for you to be "PROFILED".

Have fun in spite of all these people that sit on their sholders.

What is the guess of the time from the start of the ten year green card to citizenship; (Nebraska) My hottie is chompin' at the bit!

We left LA's jusidiction and are now back under Omaha's.  At least she's had her green card for a couple of years now.  If we had stayed here, we'd still be waiting.  :-)

In your case her keeping her Ukraine passport is the best route because as you say, once she has an American passport, she now has to apply for a visa to enter Ukraine.

When the times comes for my wife to be able to apply for her citizenship she plans on getting her US passport immediately.  It is a pain in the rear for us to always have to get her a visa to travel to Europe.  She'll have about 4 years left on her Ukrainian passport by then and she just plans on keeping both until her Ukr. pp expires.  She does go back to Ukr every year and she'll use her Ukr for that and the US pp for all of our other travels.  After her Ukr pp expires she'll have to go the visa route to visti Ukr.
