spent 10 days in makati 10 days in puerto galera, sabang to be exact.
yes i do prefer manila to sabang in some ways, the locals
in sabang have a strange attitude, they seem friendlier in manila,

If i can find a resort, beach area where its not loaded with bars and the locals are friendly, i will definitely prefer to be there , but
i do enjoy all the things to do in manila since i come from a city about 1/20th the size ,

you are right  if i was not with my penpal i would have had a completely different experience, i may try that next trip, if she mouths off too much. lol

It's sad but true Outwest a lot of the tourist spots have con artist hanging around tring to take advanage of people but this is true anywhere in the world. I can recommend lots of great resorts to go to where you will avoid most of this crap. Sabang is very easy to get to from Manila so it might have more than it's share of A holes. The main thing is you had a good time.

Tell us more about your pen pal was there a connection at all?

Head for Moal Boal Cebu it the best place to get cert for diving Ity was about $150 when I took my diving classes in 94   Humabdos

Good post.

Regarding a hotel price for an american versus the price quoted a Filipina.....

When I arrived in Manila I went to the Executive Plaza and they charged me P2000.  When I returned with Tess a week later she handeled things and they charged us P1800 for the both of us.

Where did you stay in Manila.

And I'm glad you had such a good time.  I find the Philippines to be a very nice place to visit.  I also had no problem with food.  I try to be careful, but when I got back to Manila I drank drinks with their ice in them.  but I didn't drink the water directly.

by the way....how did you like their fresh mangos?  Those are great with some salt on them.

Stephen & Tess
