Things dont seem to change much since I was in Moscow... the same usual high rental prices.

Can someone suggest where I may rent a cheap but decent room or ideally apartment in Moscow from 23rd July.

Any help would be appreciated

csc, the closer to Red Square, the center of the center, the more you pay. There are two room (one bedroom) flats in the center for $90 to $120 a night. Three room (two bedrooms) from $110 to $140.

As you get away from the center, 10 minutes by taxi, the price drops, and 10 minutes further it drops even more.

The Rossia Hotel is as close as you can get to the center, it's best attraction is it's location. You can get flats as low as $85 facing Red Square, away from Red Square for $65 a night. I had no problem staying at the Rossia and depending on the situation would sometimes stay here. Their will always be rooms available at the Rossia.

On the otherside of Red Square, on Tverskaya, about 6 minutes walk from Red Square their is a nice two room flat for $85 a night. Second floor balcony overlooking Tverskaya. If you turn to your left you can see Red Square about 250 meters. I know of no other flat for rent that is more in the center of the center. If your interested in renting it holler at me and we'll check it's availability.

I'm arriving there myself soon and I've found these websites but have not thoroughly checked them out or contacted them yet.
See,s,the further you get away from Kremlin the better the prices. One of these was offering furnished flat 20 minutes away br rail to Red Square for $70.00 night.
You "have" to learn how to use the subway if you want to hang in Moscow...
www.visitmoscow.com and www.eastline.ru and best travel inc. for tickets
Good luck...
