When you have to get the physical for your wife/fiancee what does that run? Are they done at just ONE place or do you have a choice?

Frank,

If you take the time to review the US Embassy in Kyiv's website, you will likely stumble onto part of the site dealing with K-visa processing.

In it, you will find a reference to "Packet 3" and "Packet 4". If you were to look into the contents of Packet 4, you would find this among the contents:
******************************
The medical examination process should be completed before the K visa appointment and you must have the completed doctor’s report in your possession before going to the interview.  You are not required to submit proof of vaccinations.  The medical examination and laboratory tests may only be done at the following addresses in Kiev:

1.   Clinic for Oil-Refining Industry of Ukraine
9, Spusk Protassov Yar
Kyiv, Ukraine
Telephone: 044-244-8941, 044-277-4181
Per-person fee for a medical exam is no more then $65 for adults and children or the equivalent in UAH. The Clinic performs medical examinations any working day (Monday through Friday), between 9.00am and 3.00pm.

2.   American Medical Center (AMC)
1, Berdychivska St.
Kyiv, Ukraine
Telephone: 044-211-6555, 211-6371, 211-9411
Per-person fee for a medical exam is no more then $100 for adults and children.  The Center performs medical examinations any working day (Monday through Friday), between 9.00 and 10.00am.

Each applicant will be required to show his/her external passport as identification at each step of the medical examination process.  For children under 16, a birth certificate is sufficient.  Each applicant must bring 2 photos size 50 mm x 50 mm. The applicant is facing the camera directly. Medical examinations from physicians or clinics other than those listed below, even those from the United States, will not be accepted.  The fee, which has been established in agreement with the American Embassy in Kiev, should be paid directly to the physician.   For details/appointments please contact the Clinic and/or the Center directly.
********************************

Amazing what a tiny amount (5 minutes or less) of research will turn up.

BTW - there is some other information in those packets that may interest you greatly.

Cheerio,

- Dan

Frank, I am not sure if there are today two or three places where ladies can go and get their exams. There were three places but one lost it's accreditations. I am not sure if a third place was added or not.

You have the

American Medical Center
Berdichevskaya str, 1
252116 Kiev, Ukraine
38044 2116555, 2116371, 2119411

and

Poliklinika Neftepererobativayuschey Promishlenosti Ukraine
Spusk Protasov Yar, 9
252110 Kiev, Ukraine
380 44 2774181, 2448941

Now Frank, do not take this info as gospel, phone numbers change, business's move. Have your lady call and verify first. And if you would for the benefit of the guys who read the finest non-censored, non-moderated Russian discussion board in the world, have her pass on to you if the information was correct and let us know.

The American Medical Center is the clinic I see most guys using. The exam will cost $100. Poliklinika will cost $65.

At Poliklinika you could have a long day. There are usually many more ladies at this clinic. Most women will spend from 6 to 8 hours in the clinic. Usually one has to request an appointment well in advance.

The American Medical Center is real close to the American Embassy. Most ladies in by 9:30pm are out by noon. And many days it's possible to get in without an appointment.

Viktoriya paid $60.

Dunno where she went exactly, though I could find out...

... in response to Was that in Kiev & if so when?, posted by Frank O on Jul 6, 2004

Yes, Kiev. She travelled there from Kherson, because she was told this was the only place to have it done...

I don't know if you remember Snowego, but he used to post here. He was about 30 days in front of us in his K-1 process, and his fiancee was also from Kherson. So, she gave Viktoriya all of this advice -- half of it untrue, btw...

(It's been my xperience that a lot of people like giving out advice, even if it is undated, or untrue... so, remember when you get advice from this board -- or others -- you should always "trust, but verify..." )

This would have been in October of 2002.

My wife's not here right now, and I can't read the receipts, so I can't tell you the name of the hospital... but it was $60, because I WU'd her the money for it -- way back when...

I'd give you the rundown on what to expect, and all, but the fact is that things have changed since we have been thorough it, so I don't know how helpful it would be... When we did this, we still had to go through Warsaw for the exit interview... so things have definietly changed now...

She also got this chest X-Ray that is a running joke with us. The doctor told her: "HOLD ON TO THIS!" and she was scared to death that something was going to happen to it and she wouldn't be allowed in the country.

She carried that huge envelope through four countries -- always keeping it with her... never packing it -- and NO ONE EVER asked to see it!

I told her I was going to frame it and put it up in the bedroom. You never know... the INS might make a surprise inspection, and she'll have to have it! :-)

I just wanted a ballpark figure for it. My wife is antsy to get here & I'm antsy to see her;)) She told she was sick I believe with TB years back (like 4 or so) so I don't know if that will matter or is it just what is current? In other words do they base by the health AT the interview or past history is what I mean.

Well, I wish I could ask Viktoriya specifics... I got the impression that it was a normal physical, and they are bascially just looking for some sort of dehabilitating disease that would put her on Government assitance the minute she gets here...

I really don't think you have anything to worry about... But that's just a third person's observations... I wasn't there...

The hardest part for Viktoriya was getting IN... she waited something like six hours just to get in... It was murder, because she had Stas with her the whole time and he was (as you can imagine) pretty bored... I had given him a Gameboy Advanced when I saw him on my previous trip, and that saved his life (according to him).

I well remember all of the anxious nervousness of waiting, Frank... it will drive you crazy... But, the good news is, this is all pretty easy stuff when it is all said and done.

A lot of waiting and waiting... but not much magic happens.

You guys will be fine...

Really...

At the American medical center it's $100.  At the Ukrainian hospital it's around $60.  She'll do everything at one place (in the morning) and then pick up her results/paperwork in the afternoon of the same day.

By the way, check the brochures at the medical centers for local airline agents. I was told there is an agent in Kyiv that can purchase one way tickets to USA around $600. Or go to ontheflytravel.com and check prices. Hope this helps.

I'm not going over there with intentions of NOT bringing her back with me so I'm purchasing BOTH our tickets at the same time.
