1. I am a large man 5'10" 275lb. Will I feel comfortable, during the day, exploring Cebu and environs in shorts, Hawaiian shirt and sandals, or should I wear pants? Of course when we go to the beach I'll wear shorts.
2. Until we make a definate decision Era will work and I'll have the day to myself any ideas  on things to see do by myself?
3. I am planning on staying at the Golden Peaks or Eddies Hotel. Both are under $25. Any comments or Ideas would be appreciated.
4. What/how do I get visa, applications &etc do I need to take to "start the process?"
5. Any "news" on which is the fastest way to get someone here?
Thanks for all of your help and God bless,

1. Dress for hot weather. You’ll be fine in shorts & a Hawaiian shirt and you’ll probably feel overdressed compared to everyone else. Sandals are acceptable, but I’d recommend sneakers & socks. It can get real muddy when it rains and the streets aren’t too clean anyway, so your feet will look and smell like a dead goat after a couple of hours of walking around town in open sandals. Wear a hat & use sunblock! Bring a bunch of small hand towels and carry a clean one with you when you go out (to wipe the sweat off).

2. Most people over there work long hours, 5.5 days a week. If you are serious about her and want to spend time together before you make a lifetime decision, ask her to take some unpaid leave & make it up to her like Greg suggested. As far as what to do in Cebu, I believe that we answered that question a few months back (?) :-)

3. No comments. I liked the West Gorodo Hotel.

4. Fiancée visa process? For starters, phone the IRS and ask them to mail you a fiancé visa package.

5. The fastest way isn’t necessarily the best way! The fastest would be to smuggle her into the country in your suit case. Next fastest would be to marry over there and apply for an I-130/K-3 visa. Should take around 3-4 months total.

IMHO the Golden Peak is a newer, much nicer hotel.
But, the food at Eddies Hotel is much better.
The best overall in my opion is the Marriott.
Very nice hotel, great buffett (for the Philippines), and it is walking distance to Ayala mall, but it costs about $50 per night.

... in response to Replace Era's Salary so She can take Off, posted by greg on May 5, 2002

I agree, Greg.

When I went to see Tess in April, 2000, she took off work to be with me.  But I knew that folks in the Phils need all the money they can get.  So I let her know that she would not miss any salary because of me.

You won't know if she's the right lady unless you spend time with her....and if she must work to put food on the table she won't be with you.  So it's a necessary expense.

That's my view.

I would gladly pay her for lost time, but she said that her boss would fire her if she took off!!!!!!!!! It leaves me in a quandry. I have offered to pay other workers to work on their days off, but the concept seems beyond them.  I think that she would quit, but she might have a hard time finding another job. I suspect that if we "decide" that she will quit anyway and I will be responsible for her. Thanks capt david
