Anna and I just got back from O'Hare Airport.  My MIL was to leave on an American Airlines flight to Toronto and then to London before arriving home tomorrow at 1:00 in Kyiv.  When we went for check-in the agent told us that Canada requires her to have a transit visa even if she is just changing planes.  Rather than her leaving today at 1:21PM, she leaves this evening on British Airways at 9:20PM and therefore misses her connecting flight so she gets in at 10:45PM tomorrow.  My FIL and my MIL's sister are on the train from Krivoy Rog to Kyiv to meet her at 1:00PM tommorrow but we have no way of contacting them.  We are going to attempt to ask the people at Borispol to make an announcement that she will be on the latter flight and then all of them will have to stay overnight in Kyiv.

Anybody have any other ideas?  %#@$&$ Kanucks!!!

All is well on the homefront.  Anna talked to the people at Borispol and they agreed to make an announcement when the flight came in to see them.  Just after she got off of the telephone explaining everything to her brother, her father called to see how he was doing and her brother explained all.  They are now safely together in Kyiv and ready to take the train to Krivoy Rog tomorrow.

I was, and am still, shocked at the foolishness of this Canadian law.  Even if she didn't have to get off of the plane she still would have to have a transit visa.  I thought we had a lot of idiots in our government but appearantly the Canadian politicians are in a contest with ours to see who can show less logic.  From now on we only travel from Chicago to Kyiv via Frankfurt or Copenhagen.

I submitted Delta's visa requirement site once before myself and someone else has posted it a couple of times as well.

According to Delta, if a citizen of Ukraine, who is not a legal resident of another country, doesn't even deboard an airplane that is merely stopping in Canada -- they better have a transient visa.
