My fiancee's interview is coming up on May 27. I am going there to be with her for the interview and then we plan to fly back about a week after the interview if all goes well. I purchased a oneway ticket leaving Kyiv for her. She is coming here on a K1 visa and I know a r/t is not required BUT I have been told by more then a couple people now that she will have problems leaving Kyiv. Each person says the Kyiv authorities won't allow her to board without a r/t. Is this just what people heard or will this be a problem? I talked to the embassy as well as the travel agent and they said a r/t is not required.

Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

You don't need a round trip ticket to leave Ukraine when she's holding a K-1 visa.  That would only apply if someone is coming to the USA on a tourist visa or similar and their ticket is only one way. Last year my wife had her interview (in warsaw) she had a one way ticket from Kiev to Warsaw, where I met her there.  Then she had a one way ticket from Warsaw to LA.  We had no problems at all.  The whole premise with the K-1 visa is that she's not expected to return any time soon.  :-)  Good luck to you both!

Thanks! I assumed when I heard this that it is just people guessing or maybe one person got bribed. I did buy a oneway and if there's any problems I will be there anyway.

Zoidster,
When you get your sweetie here in San Diego, we should hook the girls up.  Lena, although very busy, could help your gal get acclimated to San Diego.  Sometimes it is nice to just have someone to call.

Hey Ken,

Sounds like a plan. We'd love to meet you and your wife. I'll let you know when we get settled in.

Now that your wife has been here awhile how does she like SD? What are some of her favorite places? If you don't want to clutter this group with this feel free to send me email.

A roundtrip ticket wasn't required for mine, but,on the other hand, a roundtrip ticket might, relieve some of her anxieties, knowing that she can return . Just a thought!

Thanks for the reply. I figure there will be no problems but I just wanted to see if anyone here ever did have this problem. Since I heard this from more than one person I just wanted to check. All the people I heard this from were all people waiting for their interviews like us so they have no experience either. Thanks for your post on firsthand experience.

As for buying a roundtrip to make her feel better, well, we're not using this as a trial. We know we want to marry and have no intentions of her going back. Yeah, I know things can change when we are together but if that's what happens she knows she has no worries about getting back home. Making her feel comfortable is more to do than just buying a r/t ticket for her to return. The past 18 months of our relationship was when the trust was built.
