Last year I spent a lot of time in Russia. My sister decided to mail some things to my wife and I. I sent her my wife's adress in Russian and English. She copied it exactly as I sent it. But when I translated the adress I changed the order of her building and apartment. For example Canadian format is

First name-Last name
Apartment-building-street
City-province
Postal code

Russian format is

postal(zip) code-city
street
building-apartment
Last name-First name

We couldn't understand why the parcel never showed up. I came home and after a couple of weeks my wife told me that she got the parcel. The post office ignored the Russian adress and misread the English adress. So they sent the notice to building 139 apartment 101 instead of building 101 apartment 139. They sent several notices and eventually the people living at that adress went there and told them that they didn't know anyone in Canada and it wasn't their parcel. So then the postal workers read the Russian adress and realized their mistake. When my wife went to pick it up they tried to charge her storage fees for the 3 weeks that they had the parcel. She told them that it was their own fault and that she wasn't paying anything. Worked out in the end.

If that's the only mistake I made in my typing I'm doing good.

I must be missing some font on my system or something?

I've tried reading this in multiple browsers and it always comes up as garbage.

Normally, I have no problem reading Russian text--I have the Windows XP keyboard support for Russian and can normally type and read Russian just fine.

Obviously, though, I am missing something...can someone clue me in?

Not sure what the problem is with your computer that you can't read my post. With my old computer I had lots of strange problems with encoding for cyrillic. XP seems to be a lot better for the multi language fonts. I'm running Russian windows XP pro and English XP Home now. But I just transferred my letters from my old system and they got scrambled. None of them are readable on the new system. They were saved using notepad.

If anybody is interested they can contact me for a Russian XP disc.

What I wrote was that maybe I made the mistake in spelling address because I pretty much only write in Russian now. Address in Russian is short a couple of letters. And if he wanted to read lots of mistakes he needed to read my Russian letters.
