Hi guys,
I somehow changed something on our pc that when my wife tries to type in cyrillic she gets the strange symbols and numbers...and it only happens in a web browser? the weird thing is she can use cyrillic in the URL address bar and in google search pane and in any other application. i've tried uninstalling and reinstalling just about everything including IExplorer and cyrillic fonts. We are running XP and I think it happened after running registry mechanic.....
I'm in trouble here....please help Smiley
thanks in advance!

Open Control Panel and select Regional Options.  In there, under Language Settings for the System, select Cyrillic and click on the OK button.

Hope this works for you.

... in response to tried that already too.....?, posted by cherokee on Apr 13, 2004

When she types in Cyrillic in a local app, like Word.  Does it work?

When she types in Cyrillic in Google's search box, does it work?

When she types in Cyrillic in Yandex.ru's search box, does it work?

Can she enter Cyrillic text in Word, copy it and paste it in a search box?

Just trying to understand it a little better...

When you go to the View menu, Encoding option, do you have AutoSelect checked?  If you aren't working only on Russian web pages, this might be the item you are missing.  I notice as I move from English pages to Russian, my encoding type automatically changes from Western European to Windows Cyrillic...

Sorry I haven't answered sooner.  We leave for Kiev on Friday and I'e been really busy finishing projects at work and at home.

Right click in IE and check under encoding, try the different cyrillic fonts.

Not sure what's happening there. Try typing in Cyrillic and cut and paste into a webpage to see if it works.

http://www.yandex.ru/keyboard_qwerty.html?108

Did you reload the fonts from your windows CD?

yeah i reinstalled from winxp cdrom. I'm working with registry mechanic tech support.....they are going to install cyrillic and then run their program and see if it happens to them.
So, don't use registry mechanic on your pc;)
thanks for your input!
