My future father in law says, traffic cop is a free enterprise endeavor in Ukraine.  So i wouldn't try it myself.

Hi,
I don't know for sure in the Ukraine, but I've been driving several times im Russia  with my Norwegian licence. Didn't meet any problems neither at the border nor at police controls.

Firms like AAA and other various travel support agencies will try to tell you otherwise, but ALL they are selling is a translation of your drivers license with a couple of stamps on it in an attempt to try and make it appear official.

I have been stopped by the police in both Russia and Ukraine while driving.  It was always interesting to see the look on their faces when I handed them my Wyoming License.

I have been stopped 4 times three were at check points and once was for speeding.  I figured I was going to have to pay for sure when I got stopped for speeding, but the policeman just started laughing shook his head, said something about an "Americanyitz" and waved me off.

Jeez, what luck! I have been stopped twice, once took all the cash I had, less than $20. The other time we were taken to the local office for "suspicious behavior", but released shortly.
