This was received by me from a girl in Kharkov whom I told I would be in Kiev and maybe Kharkov soon.  She wrote this:

"Thank you for your letter. Now I pass my exams at the university.
Please write me what kind of visa do you have? Is it tourist visa or
no? Where will you live in Kiev? In the hotel or flat? Do you have
friend in Kiev? What kind banccard do you use? Is it Mastercard or
no?Please send me your picture."

Is that one strange email or what?  Has anyone ever received an email like this?  If someone were planning to rob a foreigner when visiting their country, that is exactly the kind of information they would need to know, da?  The Kharkovian mobster, Ivan, who posts pretty pictures of a girl on the internet to lure in gullible foreigners is thinking "Hmmm...this sucker is traveling on a tourist visa, he does not know anyone in Kiev, he has all major credit cards, he carries lots of US dollars, I've got his picture, and he is staying at a flat.  Haroshoa!"  I'm pretty savvy about travel and I tend to be not so overly cautious, but this kind of freaks me out.

Here's an excerpt of an email I got:

I want to find a generous man who will support me  morally and FINANCIALLY,   who`ll
love children and with whom I'll be happy and I`ll be able to give happiness to him. With
my letter I send you my kiss. And I hope  it  will  overcome the distance between us and
reach you.

Sure as heck stressed the financial, or rather FINANCIAL aspect of her expectations :-) I didn't respond!

sound westernized...

She's just go down watching TV 90210 and those were the buzzwords for those yuppies traveling to europe for a holiday.

Little know fact: All foreigners are rich and carry huges wads of cash in their shoes and a mastercard in their pocket. lol.

LOL!!
That is a bit odd!

i am not one to see black helicoptors though,,

so i just see a girl trying to line up a proper shopping trip.

The hotel/flat  part might be because they have a real aversion to going with you to a hotel, has a  bad connitation Wink as the local err umm *security guard* will want his baroush!

best thing either way is likely to avoid the situation LOL

i cant possibly imagine any respectable girl asking these questions from someone she dint know-

but i would be curious enough to corresponde further and find out..

curiosity and the cat and all that...

Yeah, I'm also curious to see what she writes next.  I've written and received many emails from different FSU girls, but I've never seen an email like that.  Pretty direct, huh?  I've handled Moscow militsia who tried to extort bribes from me at first but instead escorted me to my hotel in their car with their flasher lights on, and I've walked the darkened late night city streets in Odessa after "having a few", and its all fun and part of the adventures of travel...but some of those FSU girls really scare me.
