For those of you who send money to relatives or women in smaller towns, what is the best way you have found to do this?   Looking to send money to Drohobych (Lviv Oblast).

Ikobo is a transfer system, much cheaper than WU, they receive an ATM card and it works the same as an account. http://www.ikobo.com

Then you can open a checking account (in your name) here in the US and request a Visa card.

Send them the Visa card, fund the account, and they can make withdrawals from the account using the card at one of those banks. The fees are in the 3% range - which is MUCH less than Western Union and safer than sending it in the mail.

I hope this helps.

PS - How's the baby??

... in response to If They Are Close to Privatbank or Aval ..., posted by Dan on Jan 26, 2004

Thanks Dan.

That is a good idea.  I don't know if they have Aval or Privatbank, but we will find out.  We only know they have an account at Oshchadny Bank.

Katya is wonderful.  A real joy.  Growing up too quickly.  She is a very happy little girl who we hope will be bi-lingual.

How are your Katya and Olya doing?
