... in response to No, I don't..., posted by LP on Feb 4, 2004

Everybody deserves respect until they've proven that they're not worthy of it. Besides I was only teasing you. RW posted many moons ago that she was the same age as me. My profile is up to date.

... in response to Re: No, I don't..., posted by Zink on Feb 4, 2004

...I agree completely. I never said people shouldn't receive repsect. I have a reactive personality and treat people with an "equal force" attitude. I treat them well if they treat me well, bad if they treat me bad, ect, and every level in between. It remains very fluid and can go from one extreme to the other over time. It's why I rarely hold a grudge. (Btw, "proven not worthy of it" is subjective and can be in the eye of the beholder.)

But in a general sense I make no distiction between women and men during verbal or written interactions other than the use of profanity. I do not place women on a pedestal and other than their physical attributes consider them as equals. I give them the same initial respect I give everyone and go from there. They are simply people. I do not give them anything "extra", nor do I consider them entitled to it. Of course, I treat my squeeze and friends well because they treat me well. If they didn't, I wouldn't. I'm oversimplifying a bit but in the final analysis I'm not much different than anyone else.

... in response to You misunderstand...., posted by LP on Feb 4, 2004

Our thoughts are the same on the subject. I grew up(and still live) in a place where everyone pulled their weight. Being female doesn't mean that you can sit around and have things handed to you. And being pretty doesn't mean that you can be a using beetch. We all have our strengths and weaknesses and I don't expect people to do what is beyond their abilities. But I do expect them to do something. I'm actually very equal rights oriented. I know women who are better than me in various feilds and feel that we should have a meritocracy. But I don't think that a woman should be given a job just because of her sex. I don't believe in lowering standards in the name of equality.

As for the subjective part of worthiness, for me only my opinion matters. But it is tempered somewhat by the opinions of those that I respect. I do hold grudges and it's a bad trait. But I force myself to not actively go after those grudges. But neither do I do anything to help those that I dislike. I try to be as fair and reasonable as possible. Unfortunately, the world isn't usually fair or reasonable in return.

So much me trying to stay on the Russian topic. It'll be better once my wife and I are reunited. Then I'll have better things to do than write about myself here. For months I never missed the PL group but when I'm bored and have free time I get drawn back in. Good luck in your upcoming attempt to break away.

...with 98% of everything you've ever written Zinkman. We're all more complex than what possibly can be revealed here but I have told you before I feel that, considering your youth, you're one of the most savvy and thoughtful men I've ever come upon.

As for me, there'll be no luck in my "attempt". I'm a control freak when it comes to my own life (as much as possible) and it's definately time to move on. It's why I set a date, I'm a closure kind of guy. I will say that if there were more like you and a few others here it might not have come to that.

I wish you the best of luck with your new life and hope your wife appreciates what a good specimen she's managed to snag. After being involved in this crazy business for four years I think it's obvious she could have done much worse.
