Frank,

I don't know what your travel plans are but I would recommend Prague over Amsterdam any day.

I returned yesterday from a trip to Prague with my Ukrainian sweetheart and I was stunned at how beautiful and (mostly) inexpensive it was. I was paying about U.S. $2 for great beer, and most of our lunches and dinners came in at less than $15. The people were polite (if not overly friendly--is this a common theme in former Communist states? People in general don't meet your eyes and don't smile much in public) and most vendors/restaurateurs spoke English.

Because of the snowstorm last week here in NYC, my re-booked itinerary was a nightmare and I ended up with 2 days of layover time in Amsterdam. During those 2 days I was insulted twice for being an American, propositioned by a pair of hairy, leather-clad local men, and spent more than I would have liked because of the current strength of the Euro vs. the US dollar.

Just my .02...

It's a good place for transfers, because for stays less than 72 hours they only need a passport, plane tickets, and proof of monetary responsibility -- Copenhagen is similar.

Yes, and besie a visa they need an inviatation. The chance to get a tourist visa is close to nil.

... I just checked and Holland (the Netherlands) signed the Schengen Agreement; so my previous post stands.

Sorry to disappoint but I am 99.999% certain that Ukrainians need a visa to enter Holland, just as they would to visit any other EU country. I am not sure if Holland is one of the EU countries which signed the "Schengen Agreement" (under which there are no passport controls for travel between these countries) but if it is, it means that the applicant would be issued with the "Schengen Visa." Not only does this give the holder unrestricted freedom to move between any Schengen countries, they don't even have to enter the country whose embassy issued the visa. For example, if the visa is issued by the Dutch embassy in Ukraine, the holder can then jump on a plane straight to Spain (also a signatory of the Schengen Agreement.) The UK did not sign the Agreement on the grounds that it was not prepared to entrust its own border controls to such fine upstanding citizens as the Greek and Italian border police.

If I am wrong and no visa is required for Ukrainians to enter Holland, please let me know, it would solve a heap of problems for me too!
