If you are worried about the Mafia you need to understand something about them. First, it is not like what whe know here. In the smaller cities the "mafia" is primarily the young boys that steal computers, etc. The mafia you hear about is primarily in Kiev and its leader is Kuchma, the President of Ukraine. This idiot, and he is truly an idiot by mental standards, uses the mafia to keep him in power. If you are going to do business in Ukraine then you need to be concerned with these people but if you are only a traveler and particularly an American traveler you have nothing to worry about.
If you are basing your travel plans on an agency then you have much more concern about the legitimacy of the agency than any mafia.
BB, here is my advice and I will leave it alone after this. I find many men go over there on these tours and they find women they like but perhaps they are evenly matched by way that these guys are looking for somebody who is beautiful but they don't know much about them and the girl doesn't care because maybe she's in a bad situation (one of my wife's girlfriends) and they would marry most foreigners just to escape and then find love once they leave.
Don't worry about the mafia, they are not after you, but worry about the honesty of the agencies and the women. Buddabelly, if you are like your name then be realistic on the girl. My wife and all of the girls I ever dated in all of Ukraine are used to very large, old and bald men. They are not turned on by this anymore than anyother woman but some will surrender just to ease their pain and try to find some happieness.
The best women in the world are found in the CIS as far as I am concerned and my wife and I love to return for our visits but I worry that the western men will finally ruin these women because too many promise they will visit them and never do and make other false statements.
Just be honest with these girls. You, I promise, will never understand the great cruelty and indiference they go through every day of thier lives until you have married one and lived together for several years. Please only show kindness to these girls and you will be king in short order.
Krivoy Rog, Dnepropetrovsk, Donetsk, etc. doesn't matter. Let's say you were looking for a girl in America. You didn't care about the surroundings but you wanted a girl that was more family oriented and less career oriented. If that is the case then you would naturally rule out all of the major cities such as New York, L.A., Chicago, etc. right? It is the same there. Kharkov is a beautiful city and there are many beautiful girls but if you want a girl that is more seasoned to the home and children then perhaps you want a girl from a smaller city or perhaps one of the provincial villages.
