Hello all
Received a letter yesterday from nsc saying they needed more evidence, info etc.. There was only one thing they wanted and that was A-10 and B-10 on the I-129F. Thats asking if we have ever been married before. We answered N/A and they wanted me to send them proof of divorce or else to enter NONE and return it. This seems really picky considering the line above where we had checked single for marital status. Anyway, i filled out a new I-129F and entered none for them, also i just wrote that on a separate piece of paper. Was i supposed to fill out a new form, well glad i did anyway just to be sure. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced things like this with Nebraska and if this is the last time i will receive a correction letter?? Also, any idea how long i will have to wait for the approval after this.. Thanks much in advance!!!!

snow,

Yes, the INS does seem to be getting rather picky lately, probably because of all their recent screw-ups and the negative publicity that they have been getting since 9/11.

When they send an RFI, they usually don’t send another one unless you mess up something on the corrected copy you sent back. According to NSC’s latest Processing Time Report, they are doing I-129’s in about 30 days. I wouldn’t be surprised if they approve your petition real soon. Is your fiancée all ready on her end with all her documents?

Good luck, it shouldn’t be long now.

DUDE...ya gotta do a little homework on the threads before ya send that stuff out. They always tell you dont EVER write n/a always write NONE. Block letters all the way through. Mag-anak, Planet Love, and Google newsgroups (alt. visa marriage U.S. based) , are going to tell you everything . Its cool tho, sounds like only a minor problem, NSC will be approving you in about 2 months from now. Have your girl go to Manila or Cebu if she can in the meantime and have her get her CFO class out of the way...make sure she knows EVERYTHING about your Birthdate, birthplace, address here, job etc. They quiz em hard there now, its like the old embassy interviews. Make sure she has got her passport, birth cert on security paper and NBI clearance. I had my girl get copies of her baptismal cert. too just in case. She called yesterday and they are sending out the packet. You can download DS-156, DS-156K and DS-157, print out a couple copies each and mail those to her so she can have them already filled out. Get your letter from your employer and tax returns ready and notarized, for your evidence of support and get that stuff all mailed to her in the meantime. If you get all that done you can make up for the little bit of time you lost. Good Luck Snowman!

Question about: "they quiz them hard there now, like old embassy interview" When and where do they quiz them? I thought the interviews were mostly discontinued. My fiancee is going to St. Lukes on Monday. I assume if her paperwork is in order it should be a fairly smooth process. Does anyone know of possible hangups? We really did not practice her knowing every detail of my life because I did not think she would be asked. Thanks for any info.  Bill

Hey Bill,

You're right, the US Embassy usually doesn't give interviews for fiancees in the Philippines any more. With the proper paperwork, everything should go smoothly. However, a few people have had problems when the St. Lukes staff left out important documents, such as a divorce decree and additional documentation and/or an interview was required. Hopefully they are getting better. Some women have insisted that the staff leave the documents in the file. Possible delays to the physical exam would be if the lady is ill or menstruating.

At the Philippine government's CFO class, they will ask the personal questions. The fiancee or spouse is given a questionnaire to fill out and the interview questions are based on her responses. It's good to be as truthful as possible, but they don't really know if the lady is telling the truth or not. One lady in my wife's class didn't know her fiance's religion and left the answer blank. My wife had told her to just put down Catholic, but she had been afraid that they might somehow know the answer (maybe a crystal ball). The CFO staff found it difficult to believe that if the relationship was legitimate, his religion had not been dicussed. She was given a hard time, but eventually convinced them that her fiance was simply not a religious person.  If you are divorced, they will ask her about that. If she says you have a red car and you are standing next to a blue car in a photo, they may question it. My wife went to the CFO class in Cebu last year and said it was informative and really no big deal. The staff were friendly, unlike what others have reported in the past. There was an underage Filipina there, that they wouldn't issue a CFO certificate, despite her parents and American fiance's protests.

Good Luck!

Thanks for the update Dave. So far so good. CFO class was routine and she got to meet a lot of other women heading over here. I think she's prepared to insist that St. Lukes take all of the paperwork. I'll post again after she's through.

Hey man thanks for the info... When i was in Cebu we used an agency to fill out our paperwork, this same agency has done the same for my girls sister so we trusted them.. Should have just done the research myself and done it myself.. Anyway.. 2 months longer that really sucks!!
So can you tell me the form # for the affidavit of support? It seems there is more than one.. Is one year tax return sufficient? I was a full time student part of the last 3 years. Also what is the website where i download the forms u mentioned? Hey thanks!! I owe you a few beers..

Okay, now there's more I don't know.  Is the CFO class a requirement?  I saw some website that said they need to bring their marriage license..which is difficult since we won't have one until she gets here on the fiancee visa.  Geez, this is getting confusing.

She does not need marraige license to attend CFO class, but the class AND stamp in her visa IS required for her to get on a plane leaving the country. She can take the class now and then go back to have her visa stamped. No stamp...no plane ride.
