The cows all have their little ones now and now my husband gets regular sleep again. Before, he and Jose' took turns each doing a full day on then off. It makes him a little grumpy sometimes when he is short on sleep.

He was right about the breakfasts it was a lot of food but the men are all very lean men. Too lean, in my darling's case. He is still short some pounds since he returned and is "pointy". I can feel it in the mornings. He got up early and made himself breakfast today which I do not approve of but he does it any how sometimes. We had a lot of left over corned bread so I imagine that and a half gallon of milk are now missing. He treats it like cereal. At least he did not make a mess that way. I do not approve of men being able to get their own food especially in the morning. Mother always said that if you feed a man first thing in the morning and give him coffee and do not talk much until after breakfast it is a good thing. It keeps the man happy and a well fed man is a faithful man. Love him at night and feed him as soon as he gets up. Between the loving and the smell of food and coffee in the morning he will not stray. Men think with their stomachs and their you-know-whats. Keep both happy and you will be happy. I do not want him to get in the habit of feeding himself when I am home. Besides he will eat the strangest things for breakfast if allowed to rummage in the kitchen on his own. Cold pizza! He does not even warm it up in the microwave first. Peanut butter and banana sandwiches with strawberry preserves. Corned bread and milk. Almost any leftover can be eaten by an American man for breakfast and my love has the stomach of a goat. I think it is because they avoid cooking and washing that way. I do admit I tried potato pancakes and they are very good but cold pizza? He will eat cold lumpia, too. In the winter time. Cold, left over ham or beef or chicken. He will eat deviled ham, or chipped ham, or potted meat or sardines in mustard sauce if left to his own devices for breakfast. He will even eat an onion and butter sandwich along with pickles! Is it any wonder I hate for him to feed himself? I am sure he will get indigestion but he eats anything and it never bothers him. American men in general I have found make some of the most amazing sandwiches. Pickles, onions and sardines or olive loaf and fried bananas or peanut butter and potato chips (in the sandwich!) or every type of leftover luncheon meat with relish and onions and mustard and two cheeses. Mr. Mayor likes pumpernicle bread with deviled ham and green onions and peanut butter. Ugh! You men!

I have found that if I feed him I have to have some sort of biscuits and of course coffee and any thing else I wish. I have actually grown fond of biscuits myself since he eats them with any meal he can. Another thing he likes is a "one eyed Texas stack" which is a stack of thin pancakes with an egg on top cooked over easy with butter and maple syrup. Maybe a few strips of bacon on the side for flavor. He loves Belgian waffles and occasionally I also make crepes for him.

The cows as I said all have their babies now. My friend the bull did a very good job but Don says we must have another bull. We have a second one but he is mean and I do not like him but my friend protects me from him too. But Don says that if we are to have more cows we need more bulls. It will make the paperwork harder but that is all. Except for the cost. He is right they are very expensive.

I am quite happy to have my man home for good. I am glad he did not take that job with the airports but I would not have said so. I like having him around where I can have him to myself. After all I have a lot of time to make up for since we did not meet as young people although I wish we had.

I hope no one here had relatives or friends on the boat that burned in the Phils.

I have to go now he will be back from his chores in a little while and I am going with him to the town to buy some supplies and also some special breads, there are two sorts we do not make here at home. Cream bread which is very good, and salt-rising bread which he likes but I think is terrible. He likes it with pickled onions and sardines. Oh, the man!

Vicky

Your  Mother's  advice  to you about  a  man's  nature  is  probably  the  smartest  and  truest  I  have  heard  in  a  long time.

It  is  a  fortunate thing  for  Don  that  you  are around to  take care  oh  him.   I  personally  would  not  eat  most of the  combinations  you  have  mentioned.  However  as  a teen  prior  to  cooking and  a  microwave  I  have  eaten  cold  hot dogs  and  uncooked  spaghetti when I was  hungry  and  couldn't  find  anything  in the  house  ha ha ha.  Cold  pizza  however  is   a  perfectly  legitimate  food  for  American  men  and  quite  often  women also   to  eat though  so  give  him  a  break  about  eating  that  ha ha ha.

Now  that  I  am  a  Chef  Type  and  I  have  not  really  eaten an  organized  meal  together  with  friends  or  family  on  a regular consistant  basis  for  most  of  the  last  20  years  I  must  confess  that  I  am prejudiced  against  eating  leftovers.   As  a  chef  maybe  I  am  spoiled  this  way  by  eating  relatively  fresh  cooked  food every  day.   I  do  not  cook  food  at  home  very  often  because  for  one  person it  is  really   not worth  it  to  get  all of  the  ingredients  needed  to  cook  properly.  After  I  have  eaten  the  food  fresh  on  the  first  night  that  I  have  off  I  really  don't  want to  have  the  left overs  because  I  usually  don't  know  when I  will  have  the  next  day  off  or chance  and I have  to be in  the  mood  to  eat them.

Keep  an  eye  out  for  Don  though.

Especially on rye bread! Thanks Vicky, for the memories of my single days. Now I get wakame (seaweed) miso soup, and smoked trout fried rice for breakfast, or perhaps aji himono (salted, dried jack mackerel) if I'm really lucky. Love it!
