We saw pictures of the baby and Mares is having a girl in september.  The name has already been picked out, Dannise Chlaire.

I'll never get it spelled right.  Why do Filipinos like to mis-spell names?  My wife can spell better than I can, but she insists on this spelling of the name.

Hi Dan & Ched,
Congratulations!!!
I think it would look nice if you take the letter 'h' out in Chlaire maybe she insisted the 'h' because it comes after from her name Ched, it has an 'h' Smiley
but IMHO it will look more better if it spells; Dannise Claire or Danisse Claire.

Dan,

Congrats!  Check your email :c)

There'd be NO issues if you guys had used "Howard", there is no filipino spelling for it!  LOL  I was only thinking of you man Smiley  LOL

Hi Dan and Ched,

My guess is that Filipinos, similar to Spanish speakers, tend to spell words the way they pronounce them. Unlike American and British English speakers who seem to mispronounce many words; asphalt, ate, buoy (British) and cuckoo, jaguar, schedule (American)... Just for kicks I like to have my wife say "chocolate"...Yah Baby! (I know you've probably done that before). ;o)) I enjoy the Philippine pronunciation of most English words, "hippopotamus" is especially a favorite. ;o)))

Yep, Hippopotamus is a good one.  I just tried it on her.  She has the cuttest pronunciation.

Hi Dan,

Have her pronounce "giraffe." My wife pronounces it like her name "Marife." ;o))) I have to stop laughing...she's making me pronounce Bisayan and Tagalog words and having a very good laugh on me.

Where do Filipinos come up with "cockwa" for "cocoa" and "peacha" for "pizza"? Hey I'm a "Michigander" living in Florida (too much time spent on peninsulas)...what do I know? I still call a "creek" a "crick," a "roof" a "ruff," my "aunt" my "ant" and "Minnesota" "Minnuhsoda." Speaking of Minnesota, I just learned the true state motto (for Bill). "Minnesota: Land of 7,000 Lakes and 3,000 Man-made Ponds" ;o)) "Michigan: First Line of Defense From the Canadians" (for Howard and me). I also heard that Wisconsin has a new tourism campaign that they are testing in the Northeast (for Kevin): "Wisconsin: Come Cut Our Cheese." Shocked))) For more: http://www.angelfire.com/bc2/Jinx/
