Just thought I'd share some insights.

we went to a Nescafe in kyiv, they're all around the city. We had a mochaccino, a cappucino, and 3 desserts (all good) for about 38 hyrnas. and they are clean but can be filled with smokers. ilked it alot.

Also some retail stores have currency exchanges in them, i found good rates outside of metrograd mall, on Kreshcatyk (sp?)(but not in the mall). There is a small souvenir shop in the metrograd mall (in the corridor across from a bookstore) limited selection and basic but prices are clearly marked and may be more convenient then going to that old road with the church on it (St Andrew's? on adrevsky path?)

The "old road with the church on it"----the church is the location where the Apostle Andrew first taught Christianity to the Slavs, only in recent years reopened for public viewing since well before the fall of the FSU.
If you are interested in anything more than the average trinkets, that are available many places, maybe you should check out some of the consignment shops opposite and below the church.

Would this be St. Andrewsky Lynn?

The red cobblestone road is said to be the oldest in Kiev.

10-4. Walked that road many a time. I have several small pieces of art that I bought in those consignment shops along the way. Was there soon after they opened the church to the public. The small sanctuary to the right of the main cathedral, St. Michaelsky (sp) has some nice small gold pieces of jewelry for sale usually, pink Russian gold necklaces, etc.

I was in Kiev several times during the restoration of Michaelsky (sp) and saw first hand why Ukrainians have a reputation for being master woodworkers. On one occasion I witnessed part of what I believe to have been a baptism ceremony in the smaller church, apparently someone forgot to latch the inner door and it stood half way open for about 10 minutes of the proceedings before someone noticed me in the adjacent room where candles, icons, necklaces are sold---actually I think this store of sorts may be intended mainly for locals.
