Back on 6/27 I posted a question regarding the turnaround time from the date of the interview until when one receives their Green Card. There was one response. To quickly review, my wife came here a year ago on a fiancee visa from Kiev. We were married and then passed the AOS  procedure. Originally, the subsequent Green Card interview was scheduled for March 17, 2003 and then was postponed to June 17, 2003. We were given nothing in the way of a receipt after this interview (hence, I cannot look up the status of this case on-line without a receipt number) and we were told "verbally" by the officer that everything "seemed all right". He stated that we should receive a letter of confirmation shortly in which would be instructions for my wife to have her Ukrainian passport stamped by the BCIS confirming the Green Card would be sent to her subsequently. Incidentally, the agent also stated that our papers would be sent to the FBI for a checkout before we received this letter of confirmation. So far we have received nothing.

Perhaps we are being overly anxious, but we are interested in knowing the experiences of others who have been through this ordeal recently in the last six months or so or of another website which might depict Green Card scenarios. Is this process and timing typical? Even tough my wife has her EAD card and SSN, she has been refused employment so far because of not having a Green Card. Hence, this is the reason for our anxiety. Likewise, her daughter is being refused Federal Financial Aid for college in the upcoming year for the same reason.

Any information regarding this matter is greatly appreciated. THX!

... in response to Green Card [CONT], posted by f12phantom on Jul 8, 2003

Thanks to everyone for all of your responses! Guess what bothers us is that after the interview for the Green Card at the Boston BCIS location, the agent never gave us anything. He simply said that our case will be sent to the FBI for a background check and that within a week or two we should receive a letter instructing both my wife and her daughter to go to the BCIS office to have their passports stamped indicating approval. Then the actual Green Card would be mailed out after this process. So, once their passports are stamped this is enough to act as a Green Card approval until such time the cards are actually received. Thus, we're in a state of "limbo" right now waiting upon this letter so that they can get their passports stamped.

We attempted to look up the case on the BCIS website. You have to use a receipt number. We used the receipt number from the original application for the fiancee visa and the results displayed are only for that process. Does anyone have any ideas about what receipt number, if any, one can use to track this Green Card process?Huh

Thanks again!!!!

Having been diverted to the Homeland Security Dept., the entire immigration process seems worse than ever.
You are not "being overly anxious".
Everybody's experience is different.
I guess you have a check receipt for the AOS interview?
As far as I know, there is no SRC # for this. You can write, but calling is futile.
A call to your congressional office may be in order.
I do see that you are with the immigration office in Boston.

If it is the Los Angeles processing region, maybe 3 or 4 weeks.  If it's Omaha, be prepared for a long wait...

If you can tell us where you went, we might be able to give you a better idea.

... in response to Isn't the AOS interview/green card done ..., posted by tfcrew on Jul 9, 2003

I think the interview is done locally, but I'm not sure.  Marina and I were only a couple of hours away from the LA office, so we were sent there to interview.  Even so, I don't think the local office is responsible for creating the actual card itself.  I think cards are created back at the regional offices.  That being the case, you are are at the mercy of whatever bureaucracy is in charge of your region.

I've experienced both Omaha and LA for processing.  I've found LA is much better equipped for immigration processing and that their turnaround times are much faster, despite their much larger volume.  Advanced parole applications in LA were turned around in about half the time it takes in Omaha.  If I correctly remember the posts here over the years, Dallas used to have exceptional turnaround times, but they've been slipping up and now it's taking a lot longer.  I don't really know much about the rest of the regions though.

My wife received both of her greed cards really fast, but our timing seems to have been just as the door closed.  We have multiple AM/RW, AM/UW friends who seem to be in the same situation you seem to be in.  Nothing seems to be moving.

A very good place to post questions relating to visa status, AOS, removal of conditions, etc. is the UseNet news group, alt.visa.us.marriage-based.  If your ISP does not provide a link (mine does) you can get to it by going to www.google.com, selecting the groups tab, and working your way down to group alt.visa.us.marriage-based.  You will have to register with google before you can post the message, though.

Back in Nov. That's when we filed and are still waiting for the new card notice.
I just went to archive 197 (easier) and found that post.

I think he is referring to the removal of conditions (From I-751) from the conditional 2-year resident alien green card that is issued after the AOS interview.
