Poland postpones introducing visas for Ukrainians

Poland will not introduce visa's regime with Ukraine on July 1, 2003 as it was planned before. Such decision was made as Poland's entering to the EU is postponed for 5 months
As Obozrevatel's correspondent reports, Polish government postponed introducing of visa's regime with Belarus, Ukraine and Russia, that was planned for July 1, 2003, Polish National Security Bureau's head Marek Siwets told June 5 in Warsaw.
Poland undertook to introduce visa's regime 6 months before entering the EU, but state's joining the EU that was planned for January 1, 2004 is postponed for 5 months. Marek Siwets hasn't informed about exact dates of visas' introducing.
Nevertheless, neither Ukrainian nor Belarussian Ministries of Foreign Affaires have received official notification about postponing of visa's regime introducing.

... in response to Poland postpones  visas for Ukrainians, posted by Cold Warrior on Jun 18, 2003

Right now, Ukrainians are doing a lot of the work in Poland that the Poles are unwilling to do.  Given that over 40% of Ukraine's population is supposedly unemployed (according to a Polish/English paper I read on the way back home), they are becoming the new migrant workers of Europe.  They do a lot of the agricultural work, child rearing, housekeeping, and low skill labor in Poland.  Oh, and the occasional prostitute slips in, I'm sure.

Putting up visa restrictions would deprive Poland of some of their cheap labor force.  It would likely cause them to raise wages to get enough people in the country to work for them.  It's quite possible that the reason they are delaying the visa process, may be due to economic reasons...

Frank,

Congrats. It depends on how you do the process. At this point in time the Texas Service Center ( which you must use as you live in Tx) is running 6 to 7 months (and getting more behind everyday) to approve a I-129F petition. Your Lady will then have her interview in Kiev instead of having to go to Warsaw. The next choice is to move to N.E. area so you can use the Vermont Service Center which is running 30 to 60 days to approve a I-129F then interview in Kiev. Or you can go back and marry her there and file a I-130 in Kiev but then she will have to go to Warsaw for her interview but she can be here in USA in about 60 days with green card and work permit in hand. Choices....choices....choices
