My wife's friends send her email in Russian but it comes out in garbled characters.  How do I set up the computer so that email comes in in actual Cyrillic?  Thanks for the help.

Follow what Alfred said. The two most common are Cyrillic (Windows) and Cyrillic (KOI8-R). Once in a great while you may get some weird font like Baltic or something like that but most will be these two. Easiest way to tell the difference before you decode, Cyrillic Windows looks smaller that KOI8....does to me anyway. I've gotten to the point where I can look at the garble and I immediatly know what font their in. Ok, that's scary.

You know how to set up your computer to type in Cyrillic?

Travis thanks for the additional info. I tried to add Cyrillic through the keyboard control in the control panal but it didn't want to read off my windows disk. It told me to put it in but then it kept giving me an error message.  Angie doesn't send that many emails and what she does I think she'll just do it in English.

I've reviewed a post from "John K" back in Jan 2002.  It's a bit confusing to a non computer guy like me.  I'll give it a try but if anyone has a simple solution I'd appreciate hearing about it.  Thanks

My setup for my wife is a little more extensive than what most people do.  She is a heavy internet/email user when she's home, and my PC is tweaked quite a bit to accomodate her.

I'm glad you found a solution though.  If you still have questions, feel free to email me and I'll help you out as best as I can.

if you're using a microsoft product, try:

click on view on the menu bar
click on encoding on the drop down menu
click on cyrillic (windows - should work if not try another.)

Netscape should be similar.

By the way, this is explained many times in the archives.
