How do you spell Zarr ?

The History Channel Russia series was enlighening and informative did anybody record it?
Advise if they re-run it...

Did you see all those mongules riding around on horses...on Monday night.   About a week before the THC did a preview of the Russia Show and they said... The did that filming around St. Petersburg and the horse riders, the vast majority of them were women (ie...women dressed up like men, because they couldn't find any men to ride around on horses).

LP - good history books are great - but it sure is nice to come home after a hard days work, lay down on the couch and let something educational come in, albeit history light.  For me it is better than nothing.

Of course it will be repeated - they always are.

Seriously though, you're right. I didn't mean to knock it, THC is pretty darn good at times. I prefer reading is all (as if I don't do enough sitting around.) Then again, I don't understand why people study history....there's no future in it. (rikkadaboom!)

Zarr is spelled Tsar.  I guess the spelling comes from the conversion of the Russian word.  The History Channel is still running many of it's Russian programs.  They had a program on the Tsars, one on rockets, one on military aircraft (?), one on guns and I think they had one on Catherine the Great running late Tuesday night.

The Webster's spells it "czar".
Also the frequently pronounced Ro'mannov is actually accented on the "a" in Russian...Roma'nof.
Phonetic Russian is wierd!

I was seeing how they spelled it on the History Channel and forgot the alternate Czar spelling.  I figured that somehow it was how you converted over from the cyrillic.

if you consider the actual cyrillic letter, "ts" is more apropriate. I always preferred "Czar" until I learned cyrillic, but now I concur with Tsar.

Ro'mannov / Roma'nof
Tomayto / tomahto?  How about envelope / anvilope (wsbill)
They were actually pretty good with their pronunciation.
