It's been a while since I've posted but have continued to enjoy reading posts here on a regular basis. On Feb. 26 the Nebraska Service Center's automated phone line said my K-1 had been approved. I wanted to fax a copy to my fiancee but it never came in the mail. I tried their number during working hours about 400 times-always busy. On Tues. I called 45 min. before the office opened and listened to messages until they opened. They confirmed the approval and said they mailed it to me 4 weeks ago. They also said it was sent "overnight" to Manila and that it their new way of sending approvals. Two days later I have not received approval but Carmen e-mailed me that she had been contacted by the embassey about where to send her packet. I'm really happy and hopeful that things will continue to go on schedule. Carmen is a little nervous about dealing with everyone but does have support from several relatives that also live in Manila. Does anyone know of someone that has recent experiance with dealing with St. Lukes and the whole process? Her English is good but I think it would be helpful if she could talk to or perhaps e-mail someone who has been through the process. Her first language is Bisaya but she's also fluent in Tagalog. If anyone has comments or ideas please let me know.  Thanks,  Bill

Thanks everyone who posted and those who sent me e-mail. I have forwarded information to Carmen and I think it will help her sail through the final hurdles at St. Lukes. Today is day number 108 since Nebraska received my initial application. It seems like things are on schedule. Spring is a wonderful season in MN and Carmen may be here to enjoy most of it with me.

When I lived in Minnesota, my father wanted to play golf in May and had to paint the golf balls red to find them in the snow. Hope you've discussed with Carmen how a girl from the tropics will take it there! Best wishes to you two and good luck getting her here soon.

I think she's been warned. Her Aunt was outside digging up plants today for the nursery and it was 40 degrees. Strangely enough it's also sometimes warmer here at times during the summer with the temps reaching into the low 100s with high humidity. Her Aunt complains that it's too hot here at times.
Regarding the golf, Yes I know of folks who go out and play on frozen lakes. They drill a lot of holes and re-use Christmas trees to line each fairway. The snow is swept off the "greens" and a small hole is drilled for the cup. Florescent balls are a necessity and also insulated underwear. You can't play golf with frozen balls.

I remember those hot sticky summers, too  - with plenty of bird sized mosquitos. I don't think I'll be soon moving back there anytime soon.

Hey, my wife just got her K3 visa and is ready to fly out to the US (Chicago) next thursday (april 11). it took her exactly 26 days from the time she finished her medical at st. luke's in manila to recieving her K3 visa.

I am a filipino from Butuan city (bisaya) and moved here in the US 9 years ago and I am now a naturalized US citizen....that's how i was able to petition my wife for a K3. anyways, K1 & K3 have the same procedure.....But I must say that your fiancee must be careful in dealing with people at St. Luke's....i mean the staff there....some do not know what they are doing. i have a friend here who petition for K1 was approved a month before my wife's K3 got approved, but until his fiancee's K1 visa has not been approved yet..you know why?....because the staff at st. luke's EXCLUDED some important papers that she must submit. theytold her that the US embassy would not need it.....guess what?...the Embassy needs them..so she got stuck. I must say that you should tell your fiancee to give EVERY important papers even if the staff says they are not necessary.....she must insist to include verything. i advised my wife the same thing, and the staff told her that it wasnot necessary, but she insisted and they forwarded everything.

i guess you are not that far from getting her.

Good luck!!!

I think that would be great if she could talk to another one of the ladies who recently did the K-1 process. Sorry, but ours was an I-130 and the whole procedure has changed since then anyway.

I wish you both luck on the final phase of the visa process!
