From the story:

=== Bench, general manager of the Moscow bureau
=== of the Multi-Page paging service provider,
=== apparently shot himself

Googling around I find:

=== Multi-Page operates Russia's largest regional paging
=== network. First to offer Russian/English language
=== messaging. Fully bilingual operator staff. Paging via
=== Internet and email. Virtual paging network services
=== from PC. Local access from suburban cities. Champion,
=== Motorola, NEC, Philips, Oi Electric pagers. Innovative
=== wireless services. Network supports Cyborg SkyNet auto
=== anti-theft alarm service. Partnership with Lo-Jack
=== Moscow. Multi-Page sales points and dealers located
=== throughout Moscow. Satisfaction guaranteed. Visit
=== Multi-Page's Kremin Kam WebCam. Shareholders include
=== Champion Technology Holdings, Ltd., AO Mosenergo.

It doesn't take much imagination to come up with reasons
for why he might have been killed.  The Lo-Jack connection
might be particularly sensitive.

I doubt the suicide story.  Do foreign residents
normally carry side arms in moscow?
