Just out of curiosity, for the married folks, does your mate try and change you.  If so, how?

For me, my wife has been trying to make me over in various ways, ever since we've been married.  I remember laying on the bed as my wife sat on my chest (so I couldn't run away), plucking my eyebrows.  She looks for new styles of hair and glasses for me, and urges me to take better care of myself.

One thing that's amusing is my love handles.  She teases me about them when we're together.  While she's in Ukraine, I mentioned that I was going to try and lose my stomach.  "No!  Don't do that!" she exclaimed.  She wants me to have them when she comes home.  Go figure.

Even while she's in Ukraine, I get no respite.  I figured I'd grow a beard for a while, since we have a few months apart.  About 3 weeks into it, I mentioned that I was growing the beard.  Marina had a fit, and so now, I'm beardless.  :-(

Adding insult to injury, on of my coworkers has taken it upon herself to not let me slack off, while my wife's vacationing.  Next week, we go to the hair stylist, where she is going to dictate a new cut for me.  Marina's comment: "Tell her to find a good cut for you."

I think there's a female conspiracy going on here to make me into a better man, despite myself...

I have no idea what you are talking about.  Of course, there have been a couple of mandatory visits to mens' stores to select suits that so that I will "no longer dress like a homeless person", an alarming retirement rate for my old Grateful Dead shirts, and more designer labels in my closet than in the rest of my life combined.

I don't get me eyebrows done (my son does, because they tend to grow together), but we do have regular ear-hair plucking sessions.  Not too bad now, but at first she used to like to do it when she was unhappy with me about something, and it did not always amount to a pain-free experience.

And I especially have no idea what you are talking about when it comes to home makeovers.  We had yet another friend express shock at the transformation when she came to pick up her son from a sleepover this morning.

All for the better, or nearly all...

My wife "requested" that I regrow my beard and stop wearing jeans with holes in them. Not too unreasonable I guess.

Other than that she hasn't tried to change me except to encourage me to gain some weight.

now you went and did it. you opened this can of worms. while she is sitting on your chest plucking your eyebrows, just give her a good tongue lashing in protest. doesn't sound like a problem to me. may we all have those problems.

The first couple of times I got a haircut my wife didn't like it.  So after a month or so she insisted I go to a pricey salon where she oversaw each aspect of the haircut.  Now I have a regular hairdresser that I see every month.  Not every morning, but most mornings before I go to work she fixes my hair.  I am not complaining!

Of course, there's a reverse side to the makeover process.  I enjoy buying clothes for her because she looks great in them, but she doesn't like short dresses so we struggle with the hemline, particularly this time of year when the weather is warm.   She claims "I'm not 20 anymore" and I say fine, "Be a babushka before your time".  That usually works!
