... in response to Re: ??, posted by Alfred on Apr 14, 2003We are on call 24/7 for call up... They don't activate by units, but by person.
I have a friend who had to get out of the navy after 20 years of reseve time - because of high year tenure, a dumb navy rule, to ensure upward advancement for all.
So he joined the Army Guard to continue his military service and draw a paycheck, the very month he was signed up he was activated and last I heard he was at Ft.Campbell waiting to ship out for Kuwait - anyway he said over 3/4 of the Army Guard Unit was so out of shape they had sending guys home.
Seems their is alot of pencil whipping going on in the Army units.
My friend said when he gets back he's going to get out of the Army Guard and rejoin the navy in a NON-paying role, but will continue to get retirement points so that when he retires he'll have a bigger paycheck... YES.
It is all about MONEY!

It's like me, I have to drive 100 miles one way to go the Navy Reserve Center. I could have easily joined the Army Guard in my town, but I prefer to work on fighter jets.
I tellya it's a helluva a feeling to be sitting in the front seat of a F14 or a F18 with the engines turning.
I chuckled about hearing my friend complain about living in a large circus like tent, in the NR they puts us up in a Motel... I can't image what's it's like to be in the guard on a hot summer day!!! Guess, I'll just have to kick back and turn up the A/C for them!! lol.
