... in response to The INS is being replaced- news link, posted by Nathan on Mar 23, 2002Very interesting , and definitely overdue. They have been re-verifying the work eligibility of our employees with expiring work authorizations at my job here and after a couple years of perusing message boards, newsgroups and my own citizenship process and visa process I have been assisting our HR dept. with some info/advice. Its amazing how many people are working here and making good money and yet they are too lazy to adjust their status, renew their green cards or even apply for unrestricted SS cards. Tells me that if they dont want to make the small effort to follow the rules, but seem more than willing to reap the benefits of high wages here, then I really dont have a problem terminating them. Lots of fake social security cards out there also, they have been checking on some , here is a funny one, one guy who was using a fake SS number started to get Child support deducted from his check and came into HR asking why, explaining he and his wife and kids were all living together with no problems. When HR explained it was the state or Fed taking out the money, not the company , he came back the next day with a different Social Security card! hahaha!! They canned him on the spot! I have nothing against immigrants at all, since I immigrated here when I was one, but if they cant make the effort to follow the rules like everyone else then too bad.
