Still interested in Hawaii, or is it off due to BOTW?

Sorry - I am acronymed to death and cannot seem to get my mind around this one.

As for Hawaii, Olya and I spent a week on the big island 2 weeks back. It was the best vacation in recent memory.

Olya particularly enjoyed a green sand beach on the  SouthPointe part of the island. It was accessible only via 4-wheel drive or by hiking. We drove in, but others made the 2.5 mile hike without too much difficulty.

I liked the volcano excursion and exploring Waipio Valley the best - but it was all terrific.

Whales were migrating and were visible at every high point where the ocean was visible. We saw one breach a few hundred yards away from us while we were kayaking on one of the bays. It was spectacular.

I could continue in my effusive description, but suffice to say that we both really enjoyed that week.

BTW - less that a week later we were fighting through 40" of snow in Denver.

Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner, but we didn't visit the same island anyway.  We went to Kauai (also for a week) in late February while school was out and, as you note, summarily enjoyed it.  We were doing so many things, I could never remember to ask about the free scuba lesson offered by the hotel. But we visited quite a few beaches and the snorkeling was pretty neat, and enjoyed a Friday night luau too.  Used our brand new (but discontinued) digital camera with 128M card, got 142 super hi-res photos that I placed on CD, also took a few roles of 35mm and a couple of VHS-C tapes. Glad to hear you made it there, I think if we had gone for 2 weeks (or more) we wouldn't have come back.

I see some fairly good deals from Denver to Cancun! :~)
