In some cases you can get one for three years but it sometimes takes a while and you don't have time to be screwing around sending things back and forth. Remember that we aren't on as good relations since the radar sale thing so don't expect them to go out of their way to accomodate US citizens nowdays.
I would suggest trying to get one through the Consulate in Chicago (faster). If that doesn't work (you should know in a matter of days) you will have to use the New York Consulate.
Download the application to send the required fee and documents (say bye-bye to your passport and hope that it comes back). Send all documents Fedex with a return Fedex envelope and sweat it out or...use a visa agency (and still sweat).
At least you didn't wait as long as some to take care of this most important aspect of travel overseas. Still 35 days is cutting it close. Get on this ASAP.
