March 7th.
I awoke about 6:30 badly dehydrated. If there is life before coffee, it is ot on my planet. On the way to the dump the previous evening, I had spotted a Dunkin Donuts about a mile from the hotel. At least, I thought it was about a mile. It turned out to be only about 6 blocks. There was a vulture eagerly waiting to serve me as I exited the hotel, and he was very quick in getting me to my destination. I look at the meter. It says 71.00.
I tell him "There is something wrong with your meter."
"Oh no. " says he "It was just calibrated yesterday"
"Maybe so, but I wasn't born yesterday. This should have been about a 30 piso ride, not 71, and you know it!"
"How about 50 piso?" He says
"How about 10?" Says I
He doesn't seem to like this idea much.
I asked him "Do you know of an organization called the LTRB" (land transportation regulatory board)
He looks at me funny, and I tell him "I know of them, and I think they would be very interested to learn of where your meter was calibrated at"
I handed him 30 pisos, the fair fare, and got out.
He gets out of the car and starts to protest, so I start to walk around to his side of the car. He jumps back in the car and speeds away.
