I then walked back down into the Baclaran market district, and wandered around for a considerable time. I found myself at a curbside looking for a break in traffic to cross the street. It is crowded. There are people, children, dogs, jeepneys, taxis, tricycles, etc, everywhere. I am halfway out in the street when a small child streaks past me, right into the path of an oncoming jeepney. I snagged his arm, and flung him back to the curb. The jeepney drivers mouth falls open, then he clamps it shut and drives on. Then the kid starts screaming at the top of his lungs, and then a woman starts screaching at me in tagalog, of which I understood not a word. I assume this is the kids mother. She had not seen what happened, but evidently did see her precious little one flying through the air backwards. A young filipino who saw what happened talks to her for a minute, and I catch the words "Kano" and "jeepney". She shuts up. Exit, stage left.
I jumped on the first jeepney that wasn't crowded, and rode it for about a half hour. I got off at the SM southmall. I found an internet cafe on the 2nd floor and checked my email. I emailed my friend Jovy and told her I was in the area. After leaving the cafe, I realized I had left my sunglasses and engineers compass behind. I returned, they were gone. SH**!!
I spent about 2 hrs wandering about the mall. I purchased a plane ticket to Cebu for the next day. I then rode another jeepney back to the Bacalaran area. I walked around Baclaran for about 2 more hours looking for an internet cafe... that worked. I found three that didn't.
I went back to the dump, and took a nap.
