I'm planning my first visit to Ukraine in May, pending World War III.  My question is should I tell my dusha moya to board a train and "meet me in Odesa" (sounds like the title of a spy novel, doesn't it?) or do I act like a typical "I can do it myself" male and try to meet her in Melitopil'?  Suggestions anyone?  No, I'm not going to propose or do anything  "newbie" like that.  I've got roots in Romania and Russia, but I'm American and even Russian lessons can't hide that.  Dermo!

If anyone has any opinions or perhaps friendlies on the ground in Melitopil, let me know. Spaseeba.

Hello!
Will you fly via Odessa? If so, the only way is to use train #650 Odessa-Simferopol. It departs Odessa at 17:48 daily. You have to change the train at one from two points: Dzhankoy or Simferopol. The train arrives to Dzhankoy at 05:38 and you have to wait next train there. You can catch domestic train Simferopol-Melitopol at 07:00 or wait for a train #86 Simferopol-Lvov untill 10:14 It will take you about two hours to get Melitopol from Dzhankoy by any from the trains.
You should be aware, Dzhankoy is a small town and the railway station is very small and uncomfortable, noone speaks English (especialy at 6 o'clock in the morning! :-)) So probably wold be more convenient for you ride down to Simferopol and then use another train or car or a bus to get Melitopol. I would highly reccomend this way instead change train in Dzhankoy.

Feel free to ask me more questions if you want.
Regards,
Eugene

Thanks for the information.  Olga told me she would rather just meet me in Odesa at the airport and ride the train back to Melitopil' with me. She's never been to Odesa or the airport herself, so she gets to have a bit of an adventure too.

I'll keep your contact information for reference.  Thanks!
